Missing Cadence

Post by bradwilson »

I have the iBike Pro, wired with cadence. On my last ride I pulled the data from the device and it was missing the cadence. I had power, speed, and wind etc. After the download I went back and tested cadence it did display on the iBike. I have attached the data pulled from the device.

Thanks for any ideas!

Make sure to do a Trip Reset prior to your ride and make sure that you get cadence data from the very start of your ride.

If your cadence sensor isn't picked up at the beginning of the ride your cadence information will be missing, even if your iBike shows cadence data.

Ok thanks, I will. Does that affect the power data?

Had the same issue today (no cadence on the iBike)...I saw cadence the entire ride and it was captured by my Garmin Edge 500.

First question...what did I need to do to the iBike to correct the issue?

Second question...did this have an effect (or affect) on the power data? My coach said that the power looked low compared to my HR zones...

Thanks!

You're using old firmware and software (FW400 and SW 3.05)

Install iBike 4.0.2, available from our website. Then, use the Help/Check Online for FW Updates... menu item. You'll be able to download and install FW418.

Once these two things are done your cadence problem should go away.

Hi Delane,

What made your ride file different than most is that there was no pedaling in the first minute of the ride. In the old days, the FW would have given up looking for the cadence data, but now it is more persistent. The problem is that I had to make the corresponding change in iBike4. I've made the change and I was able to recover your missing cadence data and it is in the attached ride file.

I'm noticing missing cadence on some of my recent rides also. Cadence is displayed during the ride but not on download. Travis, can you clarify what the circumstances are where cadence goes missing and what "more pesistent" means? Not sure if this is relevant, but I'm not using a cadence sensor and relying on the cadence transmitted from my SRM DFPM. In the first minute of the "ride" I was likely setting the bike up on the trainer and going through the SRM calibration, spinning the cranks by hand occasionally.

It only happens if you coast for the first minute, i.e., speed is > 0 but cadence is < 30 rpm for the first minute. However, this won't be an issue in the next build of iBike4. In the next build, if there is cadence data recorded by the unit, it will be shown.

It would be hard to have speed for a minute without pedaling on a trainer, so maybe something else is going on. Post or send me your ride file (tpape at velocomp) and I'll have a look.

Here is the file. Likely I had zero resistance on the trainer (before clampping the wheel down), as such it's pretty easy to get the wheel to spin for quite awhile without much pedaling. I didn't start "riding" til about a minute and a half in according to the data.

Travis...I've attached another file that needs the cadence recovered if at all possible.

I assume the correction isn't production ready yet...
