wireless mounts and water redux

Post by R Mc »

I searched around the forum and haven't found feedback, so I'll post my situation:

This weekend's races were WET. All kinds of wet. Wet enough to mess up the wind-port with an RWS attached wet.

I thought I was prepared: that is, I taped over the wireless mount on my road bike to prevent water seeping in.

Of course, (or I wouldn't be typing this), water DID seep in AND I'm getting continuous wireless fail messages, despite new batteries, and trying to let the mount dry out.

So . . . has anyone had any success with wet mounts recovering and what is the process--or, is the mount toast once it's been inundated?

If you take the battery out of the wireless mount, is there rust or corrosion on the contact for the battery? That can interfere with delivering power to the wireless mount and will cause the wireless fail messages. Hopefully you can clean off the battery contacts of any rust and that will fix your problem.

Thanks for answering.

The contacts are corroded. I will try to clean them off: suggestions for how to do this? Q-tip and alchohol?

If the unit is toast, is there a way to just purchase the replacement mount and not the ant+ sensors and hr strap???

If you're on FB, this is from Sunday, the less rainy day:

Purchase a "wireless mount without sensors"
