5.09 and Fit trn defaults to ON

My Newton prompted me to download the 5.09 firmware on Thursday, which I did. For my ride today I found that press and hold of the Center Button caused me to enter Fit Train, not Trip Reset. In all other aspects the Center button continues to work correctly. Press and Hold of the Right button will a...

Re: Analyze Route?

Many rides are NOT out and back (O&B) yet they are rides which do return to start. E.g. all loop rides. Does Analyze Route only work with an O&B, rather than a return to start. The Analyze Route asks if the ride returns to start. I have been using Analyze Route to correct for altimeter drift...

Re: Climbing Total

Check Total Ascend vs Total Descent on the Garmin. If not close than definitely Garmin is wrong.
Also worth looking at end of any activity with a return to start if Start and End Elevation are similar on both Garmin and Newton.

... I can say that there might be a pattern where it tends to freeze after a coasting situation down a hill. I can't say for sure that each and every time it happened during a coasting event... A long coasting period will idle the ANT+ connection to cadence. I note you did not try a coasting event ...

Winter riding when its cold

I put the Newton outside for a half hour before my ride this morning. On actual ride start it read 3°F (-16°C) or about the same as my other thermometers. The Newton functioned well with expected power readings for the route. The display and button presses might have had slightly slower responses or...

Re: Wind Question & how do I correct it?

I find that the wind sometimes "corrects" after doing an 'analyse route'. Particularly I regularly notice that a tailwind will be corrected to a 'drafting' scenario. Just thought I'd mention it as it might be more of an altitude/inclination thing than wind itself. On a group ride today I ...

In Isaac, if I go to the GPS tab for an activity for which there is no gps data, I am offered a "Get Newton Tracker" button. I could do a File->Merge Gps or a Crtl-M, yet I think that switching to the GPS tab should be enough to initiate the Ctrl-M dialog. Or possibly offer a second "...

Re: Auto Shutoff

What actually keeps the Newton awake when near/at the go-to-sleep timeout? On club rides we might do a coffee break of about 20 minutes mid-ride. I then often get on the bike, see that the Newton is still awake, and start off. Yet then I glance down and the Newton has done an auto-shut off. This is ...

In Isaac with your Newton hooked to pc usb (usb symbol is green).
Edit menu -> Edit Profiles -> Extract from Device

Re: Speed and Distance way off from Garmin

You don't say which Garmin nor what the wheel size the Garmin thinks you are using.
If you let the Garmin do "Automatic" wheel size then you can get Garmin speed variances.
Garmin should be set to a "Custom" wheel size using your roll out.

Cal Rides and PowerStroke

Should Cal and CalCheck Rides be done with PowerStroke HighDef ON?
If PS is ON, will the Cal/CalCheck use the additional data recording to improve the calibration?
If not, would it make sense to have a HighDef calibration process option for use with PowerStroke?

The prior gsc-10 was in service from October 2006 through June 2012, going through 4 batteries (~1500 hours) before failing with a broken speed sensor reed switch.

Seriously, a clear water bottle can be useful in seeing the slosh. I would think that still water while pedaling would be good feedback for a smooth pedal stroke.

Also bottles mounted on aerobars might cause greater slosh effect than a vertical mounted bottles.
