Re: Where do coast downs live?

There is also in the Profile menu - Download Coast downs & Calibration panel (opens the Process Calibration Ride) - From here you can open an existing file or save the cal ride to a file. This is what I use.

Re: Where do coast downs live?

The cal ride file keeps CDs. Easily proven by saving the cal-ride with CDs and erasing data. Then importing the cal-ride file again - you see the CDs.

Re: Mount iBike upside down under the stem?

I have my iBike on the handlebar and the Garmin 705 mounted on the top tube right behind the stem. It is still accessible, but out of the way and is not cluttering anything.

1 - hard reset - take the battery out, flip it over and put it back in the battery compartment momentarily the wrong way. You are basically shorting + to - on the unit - no harm there is not voltage - you are draining it off. 2 - check your altitude = the pressure sensor might still be moist and it ...

Re: Calibration Profiles

There is nothing major in using a Crr value that is fixed - R Mc ( are you missing a "0"? like 0.0045 not 0.045). The Crr is not considered a dynamic value in the models for power - it is a constant add on of power due to road type, wheels, hubs - anything that directly connects your bike ...

Re: Recurring changes in values

After you start up the iBike and auto wind cal, by toggling the down arrow, you can get the display into tilt mode. Find a location moderately flat and level and check your tilt - as displayed. Put the bike in an upright position wheels straight; standing on the side of the bike, wedge your foot in ...

Russ - You have made some good points - that tie in well to my comments - needless I did not explicitly comment on headwind/tailwind, But the "bowl" shape almost completely dictates one location and not a series of locations. Thus my point of repeating the CDs at the same location in the s...

Re: Calibration Advice (issues with drafting numbers)

That's where the out and back ride come in to play. Here you get the wind scaling and tilt. THE CDs work on the Crr and Aero. The Crr is supposed to be a constant factor and removing other variables should lead to a more accurate and precise estimate - same for Aero.

Re: Calibration Advice (issues with drafting numbers)

Because you are doing a calibration and you are establishing a set of parameters controlled by the coast down - this is the only way to get a set of parameters and the quantity of data for that which yield reproducible information. If you keep doing CDs on different places along a road, the road con...

Re: Calibration Advice (issues with drafting numbers)

What does your profile look like when you allow Crr to vary? It is still likely that the wind scaling factor has an issue (air port partially or inconsistently blocked; RWS, if in use, is not sealed to the iBike or is mounted in a bad place.) Did you zero the wind and redo the tilt calibration right...

Re: New to this ibike thing! Am I on the right track?

Weight is part of the cost of the bike - as you probably found out when you made your purchase. It also makes no sense to go spend $8000 on a carbon bike with high end hardware and wheels if it is going to sit in the garage. Get your exercise, get into shape if that is what you are looking for and s...

Re: New to this ibike thing! Am I on the right track?

You are correct - the iBike only changes to the back (as far as data is concerned) when the speed drops to less than 8 mph. So you can keep on going. The mileage will continue to increase until you slow to turn around and then will count down to zero and then Calc Cal Ride/Cal Ride pop onto the disp...

Take the battery out, let it dry out for 24 hours (or more) with the battery compartment open - do not use heat (although you can set it a 10-15 inches away from a 60 Watt light bulb - or you can use the cool setting of a hair dryer and direct the air stream into the battery compartment. If it is a ...

Re: New to this ibike thing! Am I on the right track?

I saw only four coast downs - and one was rejected. This is really not enough - reality is that around 10 is a better set of coast downs. A similar situation arises with the cal ride. 4-6 miles total is better and that should be out one one stretch and back on the exact same stretch of path or road ...

R Mc is correct. I interpreted the comparison of trainer to road use. I thought that was part of what you were looking into. Re: New to this ibike thing! Am I on the right track?

Aero effects with the 606's is not going to do anything until you get over 20 mph or so. Your Crr should be lower in most cases due to superior wheels and the bearings and so on that are built into those. Don't forget you also have a different weight distribution with an qero wheel - that is going t...

And another thought - 4 miles (2 out, 2 back) is a minimum - if you can go further, then do it - more data, better analysis - with the caution that a significant weather change during the ride might lead to anomalies.

Could it have something to do with how tilt is handled - the current ride as contrasted to any of the calibrations of the profiles? And the dynamics of during a ride tilt adjustment? Not sure how this plays into each and every ride.

This may not be up to the complexity and standards of rocket science and putting a spacecraft in orbit around Saturn, But I think it is illustrating that there are a number of factors that could be considered. That said, I don't think a DFPM or the iBike has quite the level of sensors to accommodate...

Leave it to someone who went to the big blue to have trouble being polite and resorting to some off color response. Aero, CdA and Wind Scaling all play together. You can change CdA, then adjust Aero to get back the wind scaling or a combination of the three. Fric, Crr and Tilt have the same game plan. You just fiddle to what you want.

The positive tilt that I have run across was a ever so slightly loose mount. You do the coast downs and also cal ride - hit the center button and end up with a slight change in the tilt. Slight may not seem like much but these things are very sensitive to exactly that. Check your tilt after doing th...

The same holds true for getting the space shuttle into orbit. Not just because of the extra power required to carry the depletion of mass (expended fuel and tanks) as it is accelerated to 18,000 mph. There is inertial resistance that is needed to be overcome to get the wheels spinning - same is true...
