Re: Isaac crashes on Mac when setting up Newton+ GT

Follow up on this thread... 1) My Mac / NEwton issues were because I had some old iBike software. Tech support directed me to the additional file to download and everything works fine now with Isaac and Newton "talking" together. 2) The GT Newton+ I ordered was actually just a Newton+ (no...

Re: Switching Ibike Mounts

I guess that WSF of stem was chosen to be 1 vs that of handlebar, because not the freestream is important, but the windspeed which affects mainly on the moving object. And it is the body of the rider which has far the biggest area perpendicular to the moving direction, and it is just partly affected...

"Folks, we lived with 5 years of complaints about the CR2032 battery. Now, we've gotten rid of the CR2032 battery; we've made the battery rechargeable (it takes about 15 minutes to recharge from a 75% level); cold weather performance is excellent; there are no more expensive wireless mounts (wi...

Re: Steer tube mount picture?

Is it possible to mount GenIII units on steer tube mount somehow without any rechargable wireless mount?

Or do they work only with stem and handlebar mounts? If the latter why neither stem mount nor handlebar are listed for GenIII in ibike shop?

And the charts, let me repeat tp clarify not from iBike but from a Garmin. Raw on 20111022.jpg Smoothed on 20111022.jpg Don't regard the minimum levels of elevations, since I did not turn around at the same place on the descents. But you can consider the "zeniths" as really at the same ele...

Re: Auto tilt adjustment

I can't think of any device that even comes close to a Newton for environment recording. Temperature might jump a bit in bright sun but it seems with the movement of the temp sensor toward the inlet stream of air it is not affected as much by extreme sun. One thing for sure the barometric sensor an...

Re: Auto tilt adjustment

I know it sounds crazy, but just for fun. It gives me a great hobby to achieve as accurate environment data as I can WHEN CYCLING (EDITED). I started with a handy anemometer, a thermometer with a hidden sensor under the down tube and a Garmin for vertical speed. a) Slope: I could change the vertical...

Re: Tilt plot- getting strange slope in ride

Re: Auto tilt adjustment

I haven't tested this, but I think it continuously upgrades the tilt based on the last 5 minutes of data... not at 5 minute intervals. Agreed. Yes, it is how me too understood from the "official" posts from Travis. What about http://ibikeforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=2167 , Fernando?...

Re: Tilt plot- getting strange slope in ride

Do you mean that slope_offset (or Auto Tilt) was invented and are applied just for the rough road effects? All the other factors of tilt errors, which Travis has listed*, are just for theoretical discussions? I am quite surprised to hear that if I correctly calibrate the tilt on my road bike, during...

Re: Tilt plot- getting strange slope in ride

Hi GWPOS, Looking at these rides, it looks like on-the-road slope_offset algorithm is getting a stiff workout when you descend. Remember that the slope_offset algorithm has a 5 minute reponse time, and since the descents are only about 7 minutes long, they are almost over before the algorithm has a...

Re: Auto tilt adjustment

The iBike is always calculating tilt based on accelerometer and speedometer readings... but the issue we are discussing is something else. At 5min intervals it calculates the change in elevation based on the tilt readings and compares it to the altimeter. Then it makes an adjustment to the "ze...

Yep, i meant what and how you phrased. Eg I am sure that the grade is around 0% or +1%, I am riding on a log flat, while I see eg. the following slopes each after each on Joule +1%, +4%, +5%, +1%, 0%, -4%, -3%, -2%, -1% ,0% It is clear that it is because there is an "acceleration" of the h...

Hi John. ........... And lastly, that the inclination under 2% be displayed. It's good to know that I'm climbing a 'false flat' at, say .5%, and not just sucking wind. Knowing that I am on a very slight incline really helps to understand my current physiology. I know I could check HR vs power to ve...

Re: Auto tilt adjustment

The slope_offset algorithm takes advantage of the fact that we have an independent measurement of slope in the altimeter data. In essence, the tilt measured by the accelerometer system is "tied to reality" based on the altimeter data. As the running average of the accelerometer-based meas...

Now the question is is a 20 ft gain in only 200 ft of riding a climb? I think most people would want to include that effort in their climbing tally.
