Re: ISAAC: Metric always /Wind wrt ground /Temp chart / Clb calc
One minor "bug" remaining on this. I redid a cal ride after moving the mount and when I fired up Isaac it asked me for my profile details. It was correctly showing the "metric" selection but on the second screen all my existing details (weight height etc) were showing in English ...

Re: Updating data eg weight, tyre size do you need to recal
Should not be necessary. The main purpose of the ca lride is to set your Wind Scaling Factor (WSF) and Tilt. So unless you change the positioning of the Newton or significantly change the airflow to the wind port a cal ride isn't necessary. You don't have to do a hard reset even if you redo the cal ...

Re: wrong power data ?
You should post the ride file for the cal ride and the out and back done straight after, if you did that.
During the cal ride it is not unusual to see crazy numbers while it works out the tilt and other stuff.

Re: Average Watts Way Off
The GenIII RWS was a bit of an afterthought as far as I can tell and never really fitted properly. The Newton setup is way betterBruceK wrote:I have tried the RWS but the silly thing keeps popping out. As for the speed...I am not certain what was going on without referring back to my GPS data.

Re: Average Watts Way Off
Stem mount for a TT bike doesn't sound like a good idea unless you have a RWS (Remote Wind Sensor)
And that last calride looks weird. Doesn't look like it was an out and back ride and you were riding at 10km/h?

Re: Slope question
It seems to be a good point, but I feel that one should raise two things: 1. I am not so sure that result of tilt calculation are so different from each other, that you can detect on the fly which mode happens? Hoods, drops or out of the saddle. It is easier to distincet out of the saddle would fro...

Re: Slope question
Irrespective of what specific device one uses for measuring wheel speed/acceleration; it occurs to me that more frequent and accurate readings could open up more possibilities for the iBike. The current speed sensor only measures about 2-10 times per second versus the 800 times for the accelerometer...

Re: Slope question
There's a device out there with a name disturbingly similar to Velocomp that uses two magnets near the hub and a magnetometer to measure the field between them to a claimed 1 degree or 0.01 metres precision. But it is Bluetooth rather than ANT+ Unfortunately a competitor to the Newton but if Newton ...

GT Firmware Key lost
Yesterday my Newton has stopped sending data to my Garmin after I stopped for a break in the middle of my ride. Checking the unlock keys in Isaac shows the GT Key is missing. Tried a hard reset but that didn't help. I don't have the unlock key file as it was pre-installed on my warranty replacement ...

Re: iPro Gen III will not display speed or power
A couple of things to check:
1) Is the sensor detecting wheel rotations? Make sure the magnet is passing close enough to the sensor
2) Have you set the wheel diameter in the iPro?

Re: Cda Analysis
Your profile says your CdA is 0.359 m^2 but by comparng against your DFPM iBike calculates that most of the time your actual CdA is higher (top graph) so in this ride you were generally not as aerodynamic as your profile indicates. The result is you are going slower than you would if you had the CdA...

Re: Snapshot CdA's
Also I've noticed with snapshot CdA that it seems to work best when you get up to a speed around 30km/h or more then slow down (not braking) or at least stop accelerating. The high speed is so that aero resistance swamps rolling resistance and I guess slowing down helps with the calculations. Of cou...

Re: could this be a blocked wind sensor?
Unlikely to be the wind port. More likely a problem in the speed sensor. Sometimes they give a double reading due to the magnet positions. Doesn't affect your Garmin because it reads distance and speed from GPS. Basically, whenever I see a big difference in speed or distance between Garmin and Newto...

Re: iBike import to Strava not grouping with other riders
IMO even though there may be a problem in merging some files, I think the root cause is the FIT file. If you convert the FIT to a TCX the issue goes away because the converting software fixes the error in the FIT file. AFA not finding other rides on Strava it may be that Strava has to make some adj...

Re: iBike import to Strava not grouping with other riders
I think this another example of a bug in the merge program in Isaac that I've mentioned before and which I've experienced many times when merging Garmin Edge 705 TCX data. I took the .IBR and .FIT files and converted to CVS then with a bit of extra calculation graphed speed against elapsed time (not...

Was the reset a "Trip Reset" or a "Hard Reset" (the one that needs you to hold down four buttons at the same time).
When the unit freezes it's normally recommended to do a Hard Reset

Re: iBike import to Strava not grouping with other riders
I have never exported an ibr file to csv without merging the gps data so this is the first time I'm looking it at this way. Very interesting. I assume you are in Australia with a UTC of +10 (Cell T4). However you have to know that the ibike clock is set correctly. I still think cadence matching is ...

Re: iBike import to Strava not grouping with other riders
But if you look at my attached CSV file which is exported from a .IBR straight out of the Newton (no merging, no other processing) it has a column O with a Timestamp in UTC whereas column N has Moving Time. Look at rows 92 and 93 and you see a gap more than 1 second (22 seconds in fact) in the UTC s...

Re: iBike import to Strava not grouping with other riders
So the Newton data appears to be based on ride time whereas the Garmin data is absolute time. Quite a while ago I suggested (it had nothing to do with merging files) that the iBike should keep track of both ride time and total elapsed time as I've always liked to see the two and have seen them on o...

Re: iBike import to Strava not grouping with other riders
I've had similar problems with merging files jumbling up the timestamps. There's a possible clue in the graphs in the merge function. The attached one is from a short ride with several stops so you can see the details The graph from the Newton does not include the stops whereas the one from the Garm...

Download feature/bug fix
There is a bit of a bug in the downloading function. If I download files under one profile then switch profiles in Newton then the files show up as not having been downloaded. Heres what happened: So yesterday I did a calride with one bike. So I've got a ride file for the ride to the start, the calr...

Weird goings on
I received a replacement Newton under warranty the other day (thanks, Velocomp) so I straight away installed OS 4.00 and loaded up my old profile then went for a ride. More or less as expected the first 5 minutes were a bit haywire (power too high) which I put down to needing to do the new cal ride....

Re: Using Newton on a Touring Bike
Just got back from a tour of Tasmania. I was hoping to get some good CdA numbers from some of the long descents but unfortunately heavy rain killed the Newton so its now in for repair. Re: Using Newton on a Touring Bike
Well I finally got a day with moderate winds (not as light as I would like and a bit gusty but beggars can't be choosers) and did a cal ride which I think has improved my WSF. If I go into Isaac: Device > Setup > Download Coast-Downs & Calibration Ride... then click the How To button I get the following screen CoastDownHowTo.JPG It talks about doing a 4 mile ride after the coast downs. My triple barrelled question is: - Is this supposed to be a proper Cal Ride (that i...
