Suggestions for safe headphone use in Tracker

As you've probably spotted, you can play music in Newton Tracker. I have never used this facility as I like to be able to hear whilst cycling. In honesty, I thought it was a mistake to give the option (edit to add - 'particularly given iBike being an American company and at risk of litigation) Until...

Re: Accuracy of Watts vs other PM

Actually my guess is based on indoors and most people find they get a bigger value outside, putting my guess even nearer.

Re: Accuracy of Watts vs other PM

@ Cheoherrera 277W seems fine to me. If I was to guess, based on your 70.3 time, I'd have said 4.2-4.4 W/Kg, which is very near. I have a Crank based PM and my FTP is 305 or exactly 4W/Kg (I had to get 4 obv) and would be very happy with less than 5 hrs. Unfortunately, I've only done two myself, onc...

Re: PowerStroke and New Garmin speed/cadence sensor (no magn

If u once not bought the sensor yet, an alternative magnet-less sensor is the Wahoo RPM. That sensor starts at a set position and they sent me a photo. If the file size is OK I will add it. Too big. Going to see if I can change file size on iPad The Wahoo sensor is a bit less faff and the powerstrok...

Re: Dc Rainmaker Comment

Ken, if you are right and it is firmware that gives them greater scope to improve it. Most PM transmit at 1 second intervals only. I think it gives Velo comp the opportunity to produce a better metric than power. As regards the Power pod, I guess the question is whether they will utilise the ability...

Re: Trainer Tire Size

I wouldn't say it was pointless. Consistency is key. You can then see your progress. Always do it on the trainer. Or always do it outside. There are lots of reasons that indoor is not consistent with outdoor anyway. As an example last week I forgot to turn my fan on during treadmill intervals last w...

Re: A way to use new smart trainers?

Hi Russ, I've been thinking about your idea. I think I understand (mostly). So the thing we would be varying would be the position of the green line. To do this we would adjust rolling resistance by altering tyre pressure. Is that correct? How many? In thinking about 4. Possibly it would be easier t...

Re: A way to use new smart trainers?

I had a thought. The size of the real-flywheel is pretty obvious. I don't know if your previous trainers had a roll down calibration, but I had a Tacx Flow T2200, which had a display of power. It would use roll downs to calibrate. The Bushido smart however rolls down much quicker, suggesting that th...

Re: A way to use new smart trainers?

Hi Russ, I used to have a Tacx TT2200 FLOW. It gives a power output to its head unit. I realised it could be consistently good, but, even with roll downs, it was very sensitive to how it was setup. I bought the DFPM whilst I had it. They will have improved things for the Bushido Smart, but it'd expe...

Re: A way to use new smart trainers?

Hi Russ, I've noted it doesn't seem to like slow cadence as much, but I haven't really tested it much at low cadences. I tend to keep at least at 80 and mostly spend time between 100 and 110. I can imagine it doesn't do low cadences as accurately; how do you feel the electronic flywheel works at tho...

Re: What's wrong with this picture?

It has been a while since I've dabbled in statistics, but there are several types of correlation coefficient. I'm guessing they are reporting a Pearson product moment correlation coefficient. Firstly that is absolutely the wrong sort of graph to show a correlation. If they have involved a statistici...

Re: A way to use new smart trainers?

Incidentally, in the TACX forum you linked to I suspect the big differences between the trainer and DFPM are right at the start when it is cool. I get similar errors right at the start. I've done lots of cycles and at the end of the cycle the error is consistently 12-13W (Tacx low). You just need to...

Re: A way to use new smart trainers?

Hi Russ, Glad to hear you are up and running! Incidentally, you know Golden Cheetah can do F-EC control of the trainer? There is also a soon to be improved workout generator. Admittedly, rather more boring than a real simulation ride. The current workout generator is a bit clunky and is hidden in th...

Re: A way to use new smart trainers?

I've noticed a variability between my DFPM and the Bushido. The DFPM automatically recalibrated each time I stop (for 3sec), which I've tried and there is no step change in the difference. I thought for a while it was room temperature, but that doesn't seem consistent. I was worried for a while that...

Re: A way to use new smart trainers?

Sure Russ, I was planning on noting tyre pressure (prob 105PSI) and getting the calibration as near to the middle as I can. As you'll note, as the Bushido has no flywheel to push, it is hard to manually test for slip, which is why I think middle on calibration is best. If I can I will attach a copy ...

Hi Russ, Sorry to hear your Bushido is broken. One of the ends of mine was pushed in and I had to hook it out. Re: Facebook discussion of light vs heavy rims

Will it not depend on the riding style, including cadence? It is no secret that secret that different amounts of rotational force are applied to the pedals at different parts of the pedal stroke. Powerstroke shows this beautifully. As part of the energy/momentum of the cyclist is carried by the whee...

Re: iBike heart rate monitor

A potential alternatives to a chest strap is a device with an optical sensor. The ones that come to mind are the MIO Link, Mio Fuse and Scorche Rhythm. I can personally vouch for the LInk and Fuse devices working fine with the Newton, the Scorche should too, as it is standard ANT+. As regards errors...

Happy New year! I actually have a Bushido smart, only 4 weeks, and a DFPM (Power2Max). I would help you out no problem, but I don't understand what you are saying. I can tell you a few pseudo-random things and hope it answers your question. 1) F-EC is part of the ANT+ FIT profile. It is only useful ...

Russ, CdA is dynamic if you have a DFPM. It isn't displayed constantly, but it is cycled in. Only to two significant figures. I'd like to see it to three figures but I guess it is too noisy. My understanding of filters is that data doesn't have to be thrown away, for example speaker cabinets filter ...

Perhaps something along the lines of the coast down and "Cda" tests? eg change surface...coast for 10 secs...CRR updates and away you go. I'm not sure it needs a full 10s. How often do you not pedal for 10S, particularly if you hit something rough like cobbles? On gravel I think you' dome...

Pretty much as you'd expect I think. I note the comment about being able to transfer other metrics, outside ANT+, and your enthusiasm. Re: Will iBike work with this Garmin Sensor

I have the speed sensor and confirm that it works fine. I believe the data may be slightly less accurate than a well set up magnet based sensor, but it has no magnet to get knocked so works better in most circumstances & in particular if you are leaving the bike in transition. For cadence I use ...

Having read some of the alternative profiles it does appear that that a power meter transmitting torque rather than power can do so at a timing ev...

I was going to copy and paste from the power profile, but the thisisant.com website is down. This is quite irritating as I can't check what I was saying and prove it. I have however looked into it previously and decided it wasn't possible. In essence the power meter transmits the power profile. This...

Re: Using PowerStroke with DFPM as cadence sensor

I joined the ANT developer network. It allows you to read each of the protocols. I won't bore you with why. Essentially, whatever it the protocol is, be it HR, Power, cadence etc., there are eight chunks of data. In the cadence protocol timing data is sent. However, in the Power protocol the space i...
