I was not really focusing on ESD - that should only be a spike.
The battery - yes that could easily be at issue. I did also get rid of the remnants of this freaky drift by doing the reset of the unit with the battery flip.

Re: Weird Heart Rate Data (a.k.a Is There A Doctor In The House?
I started getting very wide ranging HR values on a ride yesterday. It was the first time I had worn a combination of an under-layer and jersey. I could get the HR back to normal if I rubbed the contacts a little and moved them around on my skin. This could have been charge build up, but that shows u...

Re: The Why's and How's of Wind Offset
Yes - Gen III and 3.06 installed per directions. Temperature and everything else.
A 5 degree 73 down to 68 F resulted in a offset change of 3.5. This could be instability of "zero" of it is still temp sensitive - and I am letting the temp stabilize.

Re: The Why's and How's of Wind Offset
I just checked my iBike Pro - similar temps - range of +/- 7mph for me on the offsets - zero is not very stable at 72F. +/-3 over an hour. I would prefer it be ROCK SOLID at a const. temp.

Re: The Why's and How's of Wind Offset
That's great - maybe now I can understand how a zeroed offset becomes 16 - with unit that was driven from my place to where I park to ride mounted on the bike (i.e. IN the cold). It is about a 3 mile drive and at 40 mph should really get the internals of the iBike to ambient.

Re: Where is your iBike mounted?
I did another calibration - this time all of it was on the bike path I ride at White Rock Lake in Dallas. The Crr is still around 0.004x nothing near 0.006. Profile file is uploaded. Friction remains low at ~10. Wind scaling got a tad lower and tilt correction is now -0.5. I suspect the discussion o...

Re: Where is your iBike mounted?
Interesting plot. No - nothing significant as far as differences - I rode the same road for the coast-downs - roughly the small amount of wind on each day. Only difference here was one day coast South the latest was to coast North on the same strip of road. The temps were fairly similar. The out/bac...

Here is a recent tide - typical of what I see - Incidentally - my hands do nit interfere in a cross wind with the input port for wind speed.

Where is your iBike mounted?
For those who have mounted the iBike on handlebars. Mine (iBike-Pro Gen III) is mounted just inside of the grip - so 1/2 the way from the stem and the hoods. I see a fair amount of vibration or variation in power on graphing the ride - the surface I ride is almost entirely concrete. Is the vibration...

Re: Training set up question
I have found that the power readings, cadence and HR are very well controlled on a trainer. There is only one thing you are dealing with and that is the trainer's resistance. That summarized, a trainer is not likely to help you change body position, bike geometry and things affecting aerodynamic res...

Re: Training set up question
Just a thought - If you have a trainer, you might be able to get some of this information on the drivetrain changes by seeing the average output and effect on HR over, say 20-40 minutes of busting a gut. Or you could run through the gears, check cadence and output v. speed, etc., once again observin...

Re: Pairing the second set of sensors
Your magnet for the speed sensor could be too far away from the sensor - getting only a weak signal. Check the location and spacing to see if that helps. Also you may have a weak magnet - swap with the other bike and see if that makes any difference. Have you replaced the battery in the wireless con...

Re: Until I do an accurate calibration...
Why not - they do have a cross-section exposed to the path of movement and influencing air flow.. Why else Aeros or Discs? It is not just for the angular momentum.
I would not be surprised that these are detectable with an iAero set p.

Crr is also a function of the road surface - which can have a significant effect.
Crr does have a small component of the wheel (there are bearings!)

Re: IBike Gen III Mounting
Don't get very pushy trying to get the GenIII onto either a wireless or the USB mount - snug is an understatement and may very well lead to cracking the case or mount area on the GenIII. This might be a knock on this part of the design change. I think lubrication is almost mandatory - if you can fin...

Re: IBike Gen III Mounting
No need for any new mount. The Gen III will fit "snugly" into the wireless socket - you may find a little lubricant on the Gen III to help as it is quite snug!

Re: Another speed fail
OK -
Garmin sensor slipped enough that the signal was not strong enough (or long enough in duration?) to be picked up - even though the Garmin unit was recording correctly.
Just moved the unit so that the indentations re-aligned again with the magnets and we are back in business.

Another speed fail
iBike II, Unit has been working fine until just a couple days ago. I get pairing for the Garmin Heart and Spd/Cad sensors during set up. The heart rate shows up before I even start riding. When I do start riding - no speed and the unit eventually goes to sleep. Changed batteries in unit (batt was 2....

Re: Zero Breaking
John - Have done so. Or I never stopped or slowed down;-) When I used the 1 second rate, I would get about 2% breaking as a typical factor for the same ride. It looks like I break so little anyway that at the 5 second record interval, breaking is not often captured. I am getting 0.5% on some ride. Tom

Zero Breaking
It is likely that using 5 second recording intervals that breaking does not show up as any contribution? Correct? I changed from 1 second intervals and a low percentage went to zero.

All I need now is the price for two wireless mounts and the firmware upgrade. Super!
I do have a complete Edge 305 (fully boxed Heart-rate, cadence and speed, handle bar mount or stem mount) never been used I'd like to sell if someone is interested in a 305 @ 50% list.

Re: The usual Calorie question
Thanks so far.
I was quite confident that Garmin was not using anything more than a first order approximation - way more factors involved than weight, and speed - does not even comprehend coasting - even with a Cadence sensor...nor wind resistance.

The usual Calorie question
EDGE 305 - I get 500 calories for a ride (Whiterock Lake, Dallas, TX - one lap)
iBIKE - usually close to 1/2 of this.
So is this typical for many - a delta to 2X??
Thanks for a sanity check -
