Re: Aero testing - using the time advantage feature
No reason at all. If you ride out and back on the same stretch of road, you can do a calibration for each and compare. When doing this you may want to incorporate a small hill into your out and back. This way you can compare the numbers at slower and faster speeds, and this helps to pry apart the cr...

Re: Aero testing - using the time advantage feature
It sounds like you are using the same method I use for my aero testing. I do my out and back calibration ride on the road that I am going to be aero testing on. This way road conditions stay the same and any small changes you see will be from position, not from a change in crr. I create the baseline...

Re: Newbie Calibration Question
No, the improved iAero cda measurement is for when you have your iAero paired up to another DFPM (power tap, srm, quarq) and are viewing the live drag coefficient as you ride. I'm not sure why your numbers were grayed out at first, but when you switched back and forth through the different methods o...

Re: Erratic speed
Just an update on my last post for everybody, I just got the file and I think it was a spacing issue between the two sensors. We're going to see if it works better with the sensor placed different. As with the wind speed, he was using a Quarq paired with an iBike and not doing the wind offset before...

Re: Erratic speed
I am wondering why your wind speed is so high as well. No matter what the wheel speed says, the wind speed should be reading correct, example: if it was calm outside and you were riding 20mph but your wheel speed said 50mph, the wind should still read 20mph. I'll bring this up to John, can you email...

Re: Erratic speed
Try adjusting the distance of the magnet to the sensor. Are you using a very strong magnet? That might cause a double hit.
Was it just spikes where it would read higher, or was it consistent through the ride?

Re: iAero "Filter" function
If I remember right, there is a slight difference when downloading with the filter. This is so that we could get the SRM to stop showing random blips of 2800 watts throughout the ride. The filter is very small, and brings the update frequency right at where the iBike power is when using just the iBi...

Re: iAero "Filter" function
The filter is good for people who don't like how much wattage jumps around (it also prevents those big power spikes that randomly happen from an SRM, not our fault but we fixed their problem). If you are trying to hold a specific wattage on the flat, you will notice that wattage can be all over the ...

It'll be the exact same process. The speed, cadence, and heart rate sensors have not changed since Gen1.
Just do the wireless scan and it will find and pair your sensors.

Re: weird wind readings on closed loop ride
Based on the average ground wind speed of the closed loops, I wouldn't change a thing. Which brings us to a point that I want to make. . .you can go crazy chasing your tail with the numbers for any power meter. I know people who hand weights from their crankset to check the torque of the power tap e...

Yes, the trainer mode will only use the speed versus power relationship based on which trainer you entered. Wind is not a factor.

Re: Weather Effect on Cal Ride and Coast Downs
The calibration you did at 70 deghrees would still be valid at 40 degrees, however It is likely that at 70 degrees you were riding in just shorts and a jersey, at 40 degrees you will probably have arm warmers, knee warmers, and a vest or jacket. All this stuff will add to your cda and this would war...

Check your battery. The newest firmware will start a new trip when the battery gets below a certain level. This is to prevent the file from getting corrupted and leaving you without any data for the entire ride.

also in your documents->iBike rides->calibration rides you will see an ibcd4m file from when you did your coastdowns and cal ride. If you can send that to me then I can get you all set.

Re: setting rider weight
Nope, the w/kg will be based on body weight only. For all power processing equations, the iBikes uses you+clothes+bike weight. Example, if you ride at 300 watts and your body weight is 75kilograms, you will get a w/kg of 4.0 If your bike plus clothing is 10kilograms, then all power numbers will be b...

Re: Correlating Watts with HR Training Zones
When doing a century, a good target is actually going to be your intensity factor. This is your ratio of normalized power to threshold power, so if you are dong the fitness test you will know your threshold power. If you start off your century and you are at .94 intensity factor after the first hour...

That profile in the ride file I just posted has the corrected wind scaling in it. That is the value I changed based on looking at the overall wind vs. speed values.
The wind scaling value should be left alone for this bike.

Re: Determining weekly TSS loads
This is a good discussion. A lot of people worry about "over-training" and how they can avoid that. If you keep track of your weekly TSS (the performance manager chart, or PMC, from Cyclingpeaks is a great way to do so), you can watch your rate of increase for your long term training load....

Here is the same ride with an adjusted profile embedded. Save this file and then go to profiles->edit profiles->extract from ride file. Re: Fit Test or Weight Test?
w/kg is considered to be the true test of cycling strength. This really applies on the hills where you usually see the tiny guys charging away from the bigger stronger (in terms of pure watts) riders. The larger rider has to put out a lot more watts to have the same w/kg and stay with the smaller ri...

Re: Fit Test Question
Yes, I am very familiar with Wachusett. For most people, they find that they can out out more power going uphill vs. on the flats. There are lots of theories as to why and if you should be able to hold the same wattage on the flats as on a climb. But keep this in mind for yourself. If you can averag...

Next time, start a user interval for your time trial (yeah, you'll have to wait til next April). But then you can see current watts and average watts on the same screen and you won't be at 120% of threshold after the first minute and a half.

Looks good to me. Were you around other people at the start (I know it can get crowded there). In a time trial, you always want to key off average power. In theory though, average power and NP should be the same for a time trial. You difference came when you started off really hot, 430 watts for the...
