Re: CdA setting overrides Cad. Feature or glitch

Thanks. As a sidenote the 15 seconds rule you mentioned applies only to snapshot CdA, doesnt it? I have a Newton+, so continuous CdA is available, too. Moreover I have a Powertap, too. Thus I can pedal and CdA is shown provided my speed reaches some limit that I dont remember now. It is why I mentio...

CdA setting overrides Cad. Feature or glitch

1. CdA is off, Cad is off => cadence as rpm never appears, just HR as bpm 2. CdA is on, cad is off. a) when I am cruising at low speed, so CdA data are not displayed => cadence is not displayed, just HR b) at higher speeds when CdA date are displayed, then ALSO cadence data is displayed (as a sideno...

Re: Getting Rid of Spurious DFPM signals

We have been unable to reproduce this situation. Sorry for the late reply, but I had no time for riding until recently. I insist on that there is a bug in 4.14, too. a) if one sets the filter to 0, Newton+ shows the power readings measured by itself, if Dfp Disp is set to OFF. b) if one sets the fi...

Re: Getting Rid of Spurious DFPM signals

If I remember well I met this phenomenon using OS 4.13.

In the meantime I made the fw update. There is nothing more left for me than repeating the test with 4.14.

Thanks for your time spent with the attempts to reproduce it.

Any confirmation or any denial from Velocomp or from another user with Newton & DFPM combo? Please!

Thanks

Displaying DFPM watts vs Newton watts

I made another ride, this time I set the filtering to zero. When I set dFP diSP to OFF and covered the wind port with my palm, the power readings were totally different as one expects them. Afterwards I applied a filtering of 3 and there was no effect of wind port obscurement as regards power readin...

Re: Getting Rid of Spurious DFPM pairing

. In this setting (Off/dfp/disp), even if you're paired with a DFPM, your Newton will display your power readings (you'll still record his power readings, however, whenever he is close) John, I opted for OFF for a different reason, namely I wished to compare realtime the power readings of my Powert...

Re: Bicycle.net review of iBike Newton

Just a praise for a small feature, which is enormously cozy. At least for me.

I am referring to holding the center button on Envio 2 screen to make the last altitude/elevation calibration work again. No need to switch to menu, no need to scroll the digits etc.

Well done.

Re: shipping charge

I am in the same situation except for I live in Europe. $39 for the mount can be regarded as fair, almost $60 for the shipping to Europe for a lightweighting item is way too much. There are basic services like those from USPS. On the other hand European dealers do not list the DP Moun except one, bu...

Re: It's here: GPS for your Newton!

My general thoughts, Russ. Either you send some sort of ID from Newton to the phone app, or vice versa, to prepare a potential auto merge, or at least you should fully synchronize the time stamps of Newton and the phone app. Phone has the GPS, so has an accurate time when GPS is ON. You cant do the ...

Re: Slope question

I guess y'all started to predict my way of thinking quite well. Actually I was thinking about to propose multi temperature sensors placed at different places on the bike and to use the minimum value of those measured by them to get an even better temperature reading. But it would not be revolutionar...

Re: Slope question

The cal ride could become 3 short rides: on the hoods, in the drops and out of the saddle; then during a ride the iBike might be able to detect which position you are in from the tilt calculation and adjust CdA on the fly. It might also make the iBike more accurate for MTBers. It seems to be a good...

Re: Slope question

Anybody who is chasing max slope accuracy more wildly than how it is provided by default can add as many magnets as he can get provided they are evenly spaced on the wheel. I still have 5 and the set circumference is 419mm. As a sidenote iAero does not let you set 419mm as a wheel circumference, pre...

Re: Slope question

Does Newton work in a different way than Gen3 as far as slope calculation is concerned? The accelerometer data has to be cleaned from the effect of acceleration to get the slope. The slower one rides the less acceleration data per secundum is available. On slopes like 17% or more, it is quite common...

Re: Slope question

Today I rode a hill repeat ride however the slope estimation in my Newton seems to differ between the different laps (see attachement - laps 2-5), max slope varies between 15.5% and 17.6% Anybody who has an idea what this is due to? Could it have anything to do with if I am sitting down or I am out...

But the data should not be received by Edge 705, when cadence is disabled and only HR and power are enabled.

Re: Cadence data sent out under the umbrella of GT key?

So leave the cadence sensor disabled within the 705 settings and do not turn on the iBike. See if the cadence is recorded but ignored. FWIW I do not trust the settings in the 705 as far as using or not using SPD or CAD sensors. Definitely it will happen, but these days I am too busy at work to go f...

Re: Cadence data sent out under the umbrella of GT key?

Zoltan - simple test, disable the gsc-10 on the 705 and see if you get cadence from the iBike and speed from the 705 gps. I may do a test soon on my Newton. I do NOT have gsc 10, just a separated cadence and a separated speed sensor. Actually this is what I did, I disabled the cadence sensor on Edg...

Re: Cadence data sent out under the umbrella of GT key?

Thanks for the confirmation, which was the logical answer. I have a speed sensor and a cadence sensor on my trekking bike. So ...

Cadence data sent out under the umbrella of GT key?

Is it possible that when I use my iAero Gen3 for sending power data to my Garmin, it also transmits the cadence data?

I know my question is strange, but a YES answer would explain something strange I am experiencing.

Re: Use of DFPM data by iAero or Newton+

Perhaps PowerTap also increases its raw data by 2% or so to be comparible to crank-based power meters which measure the direct power applied by the rider. Anyone know? I guess, it is just a glitch in that part of the software. I dont dare say that there is a mistake in the calculation of eg CdA rel...

Over the years I have ridden in many Porsches, and have noticed something odd about them: their speedometers consistently read about 5% high. How do I know?
