Re: Accurate slope range
I was also thinking numeric overflow but the issue could arise if you take your iBike off the mount and hold it upright (for instance while connecting it to your computer) causing it to crash with a divide by zero error. So extra code is needed to avoid that.

Re: Accurate slope range
Not really wrong technically; but for practical purposes the simplification of using sin rather than tan is a sensible one to reduce the calculation time and eliminates possible divide by zero errors For angles less than about 15 degrees (or 26%), the difference between sin and tan is not very signi...

Re: Where's the Data?
Another thought on this problem as it reminds me of some issues I had with my GenIII. Next time you get the problem check the gradient by pressing the Hill-Wind button. You may find it shows a big negative gradient. I used to get this on my GenIII if I didn't do a reset before a ride and it also see...

Re: Speed and Distance variance compared To Garmin 500
The max speed of 62.6 mph on the Newton is a pointer to something strange. Could be the speed magnet is not properly set up and you are getting a doubling up of the reading. With the Garmin reading speed from the GPS a couple of minutes of the Newton reading double your speed (60 odd mph instead of ...

Re: Speed and Distance variance compared To Garmin 500
The first and most obvious reason is a discrepancy between the wheel circumference recorded in Newton vs Garmin. I'm not familiar with the Garmin 500 but my 705 measures distance and speed using its GPS readings. It only uses the wheel circumference when the GPS is lost. But it also has a feature th...

Re: Analyze Route and Analyze Tilt Advanced View
The question is if there is a bug in the chart display resulting in the totally negative elevation traces in the charts. Question was not about the power calculation or dance locations. Isn't that just an error on the starting elevation? The Newton only measures the relative changes in elevation, n...

Re: Where's the Data?
Check your speed sensor is close enough to the magnet. If the speed sensor is not working your Garmin uses its GPS to determine speed (I'm assuming you have a Garmin with GPS) so appears to work normally but the iBike thinks you are stationary so records nothing. I've had this happen on several occa...

Re: Merge with other data
A few attachments to illustrate the issue: As you can see in the TCX file the lat and long use 6 decimal places. In the ibike CSV export there are only 5 decimal places. There is also a discontinuity in the ibike CSV file at 11:00:52 (row 108) where it skips back 8 seconds. By my own calculations, t...

For some reason each of your files shows you only got to 15 or 16 mph before you started to coast.

Power readings sent to Garmin
When the Newton auto corrects its tilt or after things like a cal ride, tilt correction etc... with the GT key it sends a huge instantaneous power reading to the Garmin which messes up the average power and graphs in Training Center. By huge I mean 30000, 40000 even 60000+ Watts. Is it possible to s...

Wind display
I've noticed while out riding on a windy day that when my speed drops below 8 km/h (i.e. 5 mph) the Wind reading on the environment screen promptly drops to 0.0 But in the ride file the wind still seems to be recorded properly. Just curious as I was thinking it would be nice to be able to work out j...

Merge with other data
I've started using the iBike software feature that lets me merge with, in my case, a Garmin TCX trace of my ride to get Lat and Lon. I've found a couple of problems with this: When I use the Garmin timestamps the output often had them a bit jumbled, some timestamps are reused and out of order. Most ...

The reading is instantaneous but my problem is that the necktop processor is slow to work out whats happening when the scale changes. Would be great to be able to fix the scale in one's profile or even better fix the lower and upper range

The dashes are a graph showing your instantaneous power. The number at the right shows the scale. If it shows, say, 400 then a full row of dashes is 400W and half a row is 200W

A bit of a moot point. The old twist-on mount won't work with the Newton anyway. Over in the other thread http://www.ibikeforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=2240&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=120#p13004 John says to return with the mount (but NOT sensors) But it seems it can be either the wir...

Re: New Handlebar and Stem mount for Newton
Yes, the rechargeable mount will slide on to the new Newton mount. The rechargeable mount will NOT work with the Newton head... Thanks John but what we are really trying to find out is whether the Newton will slide onto the steer tube bracket. I've assumed it will based on the pictures but if it do...

Re: At long last, the iBike Newton!
Can I obtain the GT upgrade at a later date? I'm assuming I can but want to be sure.
Right now I have the iSport and use the GT option to record and download the power data, but if I get the Newton I probably wont need to do that.

Re: Calories X Joules Readings
I think you have a problem with your math. If 1 joule= 0.2390 cal then 569 kJ = 136 kcal and not 2,380 kcal (you divided by 0.2390 instead of multiplying) The human body is only about 25% efficient at producing energy, so to produce 1 kcal of energy you need to burn 4 kcal. To produce 136 kcal you n...
