Question about Isaac's data reporting

When viewing data from my Aeropod in Isaac for Windows 5.0.1 one of the statistics that is reported is the ambient pressure in mBarrs (or hPa if you prefer). Today Isaac reported a pressure of 1026 mbar at a mean elevation of 726 feet. A barometer reported an uncorrected ambient pressure of 998 mbar...

Re: Is there a way to set the Aeropod date/time in the field?

Pairing is normally done while the bike is not moving. I have never had a problem when I pair the sensors at rest. This might be the easiest way to solve your problem. Yes, obviously ... but I do think you should be aware of the behavior and the fact that when things go awry a hard reset is sometim...

Re: Is there a way to set the Aeropod date/time in the field?

1. How would Isaac know the date/time is wrong, before the user says it is wrong? I understand that changing an app can be a complicated process but as it stands the lack of a user interface for the Aeropod is an obstacle that users have to work around, not what I would expect from a user-friendly ...

Re: Unexpected behavior at start of ride

I'm not sure whether the first behavior (problems if I'm moving when I start the pairing) is 100% of the time ... but today it happened both times I tried, and I had to a hard reset after both. The second time I decided to stop for the whole paring process and things went as expected. Regarding the ...

Is there a way to set the Aeropod date/time in the field?

After having to reset the Aeropod again during my ride today I was reminded that resetting the Aeropod also resets its clock. Is there not a way to set the clock in the field? I realize I can change the date/time In Isaac but that works only if I actually remember what time it was when I set the Aer...

Unexpected behavior at start of ride

I've noted a couple of things that may represent problems with the pairing/calibration process. If I try to start the sensor pairing process while riding (ie: while actually moving) the Aeropod may pair successfully with the sensors but the subsequent behavior may not follow the expected sequence of...

Re: sensor pairing cal ride clarification request

The reported power from the Aeropod stays at zero until I press the button to begin the out-and-back I do not stop to press the button, I do it while riding When power gets to 50 and I stop IIRC the Garmin shows 50 briefly and then it may drop to zero (not sure about that) and when I start back it b...

Re: sensor pairing cal ride clarification request

I cannot give an official answer but I have not had much luck starting the calibration ride immediately after pairing. My experience is that it works better to ride briefly until the indicator light starts flashing prior to pressing the button to start the out-and-back portion.

First 5 minutes of a ride

I understand that the first 5 minutes of a new ride are critical for purposes of re-calibrating the tilt sensors of the Aeropod. I'm not sure I have this right but my impression is that the point to the 2-step initial calibration is that the first few minutes (when power ranges 0-50 then 50-70) is t...

Re: Air density estimates

Thank you for the detailed response. That makes sense.
I'm not sure that the air density (rho) reported by Isaac in the exported CSV files matches well with the temperature and pressure values reported for the ride file but the differences are small.

Re: Air density estimates

Does the equation AeroPod uses to covert air pressure to wind speed have air density in it? If it does, how is the air density value determined? Yes. We get air density from barometric pressure sensor measurements. That's the problem. In order to get air density from pressure you have to know or im...

Do profiles 1-3 still auto-adjust calibration?

In the post about the new firmware there is a statement that the new calibration verification during the first 5 minutes applied only to profile 4. Does that mean that in profiles 1-3 the aeropod still checks and adjusts the calibration periodically during each ride?

Re: Air density estimates

OK. I'd have to work through the equations but intuitively at least the resistance from air would be related to the pressure differential * CdA and that might get around needing humidity for the CdA calculation ... but the Connect IQ app does report wind speed and the CSV files exported by Isaac rep...

Air density estimates

I may have this wrong ... my fluid dynamics training was a long time ago and mostly revolved around liquids, not gases, but IIRC the resistance from air depends on air density. Air density depends on a combination of barometric pressure and the mix of gases. Since the oxygen, carbon dioxide and nitr...

What is displayed in the Wind Speed field of the exported CSV files?

I've never been quite sure what exactly is displayed in the Wind Speed field of the CSVs that Isaac exports. It appears that Golden Cheetah can access the Wind Speed data ... but whether it can use it in a meaningful way is unclear. When Isaac exports the Wind Speed is it the measurement from the Pi...

Re: What is actually stored in the HR channel of profile 4?

That's interesting ... so does that mean that if I have the Garmin set to auto-lap by position (as opposed to pressing the button) at the beginning and end of the section I want to use for testing then I don't have to worry about the prior section "poisoning" the test? I usually have it se...

Re: What is actually stored in the HR channel of profile 4?

If you're changing positions then yes, for the first 90 seconds after the change the CdA is "blended" from your prior test. I would look at the CdA after 90 seconds. The same principle applies if you've made a sharp turn. Note that, if the test is long enough, these kind of short term eff...

Re: What is actually stored in the HR channel of profile 4?

What is stored is the same data that is displayed in the Connect IQ app (including the conversion constant). That being the case would it not be more accurate to discard the first 90 seconds of any effort used to calculate the CdA or alternatively use the Isaac CdA analysis instead of basing the ca...

What is actually stored in the HR channel of profile 4?

While puzzling over some of my recent test results I had a thought regarding a potential error. The Garmin Connect iQ app displays a rolling 90 second CdA calculation. But what is actually stored in the Aeropod's HR channel? Instantaneous results? or a rolling average? I thought about this as I rode...

Re: Puzzling results

Thanks for working on this. You are correct that I moved the Aeropod twice. That meant that I did 3 calibration rides (road bike first, TT bike second, road bike again) and I "calibrated" the DFPM (ie, re-zeroed it) immediately prior to each ride. I did not note the zero offset reported wh...

Puzzling results

I'm still having a hard time getting results that make sense when I do CdA testing. Yesterday I did some comparisons between two bicycles, my road bike with clip-on aerobars and my tt bike. The road bike has shallow road rims (Velocity A23 rims, Industry 9 hubs) and the TT bike has aero wheels (Zipp...

Please download and use the Velo Tracker app (iOS) Are you referring to the Velocomp Velotrack app? I didn't find a "Velo Tracker" in the app store. Is there an advantage to using the Velotrack app as opposed to merging GPS data from my Garmin aside from the fact that it happens automatic...

Any way to correct a bogus elevation channel?

One of the challenges in testing is the fact that the ambient conditions can change. Today I rode laps on a loop that is nearly pancake flat except for the brief excursions to the parking lot ... but that 's not what the elevation curve for either the Aeropod or my Garmin shows. Knowing as I do that...

Re: What happens if the DFPM is wrong during the calibration ride?

Thanks. I'm actually not terribly worried about real time CdA right now. I'm just trying to compare CdA for multiple different setups using after-the-fact analysis in Isaac. Now that I think about it that raises two separate questions: if I'm not actually using real time CdA, just the analysis in Is...

We'll have to see if one of the Velocomp folks has any better insight, but just so we are comparing apples to apples what happens if you use the same data for both the power meter comparison and CdA analysis charts? The screen shots you posted for the ride on 3-29-19 show different sections of the a...

I forgot to zero my DFPM before my last ride. I was using Profile 4 with the beta 18 firmware. The calibration portion of the ride went smoothly but I don't know how far off my DFPM's zero setting was. When I get on the bike next time do I need to re-calibrate from scratch or just do the 5 minute no...

When you say you have "all the data" recorded on the Aeropod that includes the power channel from the DFPM? If so then if you select the relevant portion of the ride Isaac can calculate a CdA for that selection. I"m not at my laptop right now but I think it is under Tools | Analyze Cd...

Re: A little confused about multi-bike support

Do you know which profile you are using for each bike? If not you should be able to determine from Isaac which profile(s) are set up on the Aeropod. If you are using the Aeropod as a PM without a DFPM you should have a separate profile set up for each bike. I'm not 100% certain but as I understand i...
