Re: iBike and Weight Loss
Congrats on the 15 pound loss, John. Most of my weight loss started at age 40 when I got tired of being 200 pounds at 5' 7" tall (I'm nearly 52 now). At my lowest weight, I reached 145 pounds through running... hurt my knees, rehab'ed them on the bike. I'm at 160 pounds these days, but my cycli...

Re: Water getting under display screen!
Some of the display segment signal lines are probably shorted out with sugar and/or salt bridges.
I'd contact Velocomp for a replacement.

Second thoughts, John.
Racing season is in full swing, so I want to keep mine as long as possible.
Can you advise me as to the latest I can return mine and still be within warranty?

Re: New article by Boyd Johnson: iBike Racing Tactics
It was a pretty calm day, but even in windy days it's really easy to see when you are drafting and when you are not. When you can look at that info you can analyze a ride file with more info that any other power meter will give you. +1 - I've used the Wind Speed display to find the "sweet spot...

Boyd,
Was this a calm day or a tailwind day?
Can we assume that the wind that was there came from the same direction the entire time for this example?

Re: Wireless sensors and the cold
It sounds like your iBike battery went bad. That causes crazy numbers. In cold weather such as yours we recommend putting in a new battery prior to each ride. A new battery will last 2-5 hours in really cold weather. Then, save the "used" battery for spring. When the temperatures warm you...

Re: The Why's and How's of Wind Offset
It could also be that the wind scaling number in your profile is set to a number that makes your wind port less sensitive to changes in pressure. I believe a setting of greater than 1 (x > 1) may set you up for this type of observation.

I didn't even try to use the iBike during my ride this morning:

It was -3 degF with the average wind speed from the WNW at 19 MPH.

Re: The cold
I have scads of batteries that check out good at room temperature, but because they aren't fresh, they will not withstand a cold ride.
On the other hand, I've had fresh/brand new batteries last an entire 120 mile (7-9 hours) ride in subfreezing temps.

Re: Rechargeable Batteries
I bought the kit and decided not to use them. Voltage was extrememly high in the neighborhood of 3.8v and when it got to about 3.0 it dropped like a rock. I never even installed one in the unit out of concern for frying something. I'm using mine to power some fake candles this time of the year. All...

Re: Tilt Correction for Gen 3
I have found the Gen III results so good that I don't even bother to do the Analyze Power task any longer. At some point in the future I suspect we will remove the Analyze Power feature; it is an artifact of earlier generation iBikes. +1, I have stopped doing the Analyze Power task as well. I'm sti...

Re: aero2 to aero3
I believe that GEN IIIs have new hardware AND firmware. The GEN III firmware for the Aero may not fit well (or, at all) into the GEN II. Not only that, but the firmware is written for a newer processor. There's a possibility that the firmware code may not be 100% compatible with the GEN IIs processo...

Look at the slope over the 55 mile distance. There is less than a two watt difference! With huge barometric changes as we went from 200' above sea level at the start to over 1000' and back five times. Add to that significant temperature changes from 59 at the start to 92 at the top of the fourth cl...

You'll need to try a couple of rides. Once you have a profile that you think will work, you can try it on a couple of recent rides by using the "Switch to profile" option. Then check the tilt (green line). If it's closer to level then you are headed in the right direction. If you are sati...
