Re: Expected CdA Precision

I know we're talking about this in the other thread, but I wanted to mention that I observe that effect of turn-around on the analyzed CdA on the file I shared above too. Analyzed CdA of a group of laps that include test laps and intermittent turn-around laps (< 0.5 miles) is not equal to the averag...

Re: [Feature Request] Ctrl-click to Select Mulitple Laps

Also, this was on my road bike, so the numbers are very different from the other tests.

Re: Expected CdA Precision

Sharing another test file from today, with some more observations. I only tested one position, I just wanted to test for consistency of CdA over laps. I redid the calibration process before testing. In the attached file, relevant laps are 2 (warmup), 4, 6, 8, 11. Then I rode somewhere else and came ...

Re: Expected CdA Precision

Hi John, Just to make sure these factors aren't contributing to any unwanted errors, can you confirm a couple of things: 1. Is my device location and angle, as shown in the photos, fine? 2. One of my testing sites is a bike path next to a freeway. I wonder if that's causing any unwanted wind turbule...

Re: Expected CdA Precision

One factor is the wind speed and wind direction, especially direction with a higher yaw angle. Another factor would be tire pressure (have you got a digital pressure meter device?, is the pressure constant?) Yeah, it seems like wind is likely the biggest cause of variation. It's pretty much impossi...

Re: Expected CdA Precision

Hi John I did some more digging into the data and found something interesting. At first I noticed that the CdA values reported in the table were more consistent than the corresponding Analyzed CdA values. Then I took a step further and split each lap into two sections - (1) from the start to just be...

Re: [Feature Request] Ctrl-click to Select Mulitple Laps

Hey John, can you confirm the latest version number? I'm on 1.0.25, but I do notice the turnaround lap discrepancy, as shown below. These screenshots are from a test from a couple weeks ago. Laps 6, 8, and 10 have individual analyzed CdAs of 0.291, 0.295, 0.291. But when I group them (along with tur...

Re: Expected CdA Precision

The variables under my control, to ensure reproducibility, are: Using the same test route: I did that, made sure to start and stop at the exact point Holding the same position: I did that too (made sure to hold the position for all of those 4.5 minute intervals) to an extent that cannot give a 10W d...

Requirement of Garmin for using Aeropod

I'm using my aeropod in profile 4 with a Garmin watch. It doesn't support the Aeropod 2.0 app, so I'm using the older one. But then I wonder if I even need the app installed? If I'm just interested in collecting data, is it enough if I just pair my watch with aeropod, start the ride on the watch and...

Expected CdA Precision

I'm curious about the kind of precision other users are seeing in their CdA testing. I've read of +-0.002 in a couple of places in this forum, but haven't seen the data that goes with it - I'm more interested in understanding all the different parameters that went with such precision. The best I'm s...

[Feature Request] Ctrl-click to Select Mulitple Laps

Right now the only way to select multiple laps in VA, to analyze them together, is to use the shift-key and select consecutive laps. But this grouping is not possible for a variety of common scenarios, like: Out-back testing, where the "test" lap is every other lap (so not consecutive) Mix...

Re: CdA Variation in Initial Testing

^ In addition to that, I just noticed that the power graph shown in the .ibr file fetched from the device is different from when I import power into VA from my bike computer's .fit file. The latter has much less fluctuation. I wonder if this is contributing to some issues? Here are two screenshots c...

Re: CdA Variation in Initial Testing

Hi John, I have some more results from today's test, and there are a few questions I'm hoping to get your input on. I did a lot of runs today, I tested four different configurations, I'll call them A, B, C, D. Wrt that, the relevant lap numbers in my file are: A: 10, 13, 14 B: 16, 18, 20, 22, 24 A: ...

Re: CdA Variation in Initial Testing

Hi John, I did some more testing today, a new short 3-min loop, pretty much all flat. The CdA values look pretty consistent (in the attached file, my testing laps were 6, 8, 12, 14, 16, and 18), but I was checking the elevation tab, since you mentioned that being a source of error last time, and I n...

Re: CdA Variation in Initial Testing

Hi John, Thanks for pointing that out. Quick question: Is it ok if the stop point is on the other side of the road as the start point, as long as they are both at the same level/elevation? On my bike-path test route, this seems irrelevant, since it's a narrow path and I pass by the same start point ...

Re: CdA Variation in Initial Testing

Hi John, Thanks a lot for the detailed feedback, much appreciated. A few follow-up comments: At this stage, I'm just trying to understand the variability I could get when I ride a given course in a given position. So, when I actually test out changes, I'd have an estimate for variance and margin of ...

CdA Variation in Initial Testing

Hello! I got my aeropod recently, and I put it to test yesterday and today. During and post calibration, I noticed the watts stayed at 0. I later realized that it is sending them through another channel, and when I added that as a new sensor in my Garmin, the watts started showing as expected (i.e 0...
