I'm Confused (As Per Usual)

So, Decided to do a Profile 4 calibration ride. I then decided to test positions on a closed, 3.4 mile loop. I wanted to compare riding on the tops versus the drops. I did 4 loops on the tops and 3 loops on the drops. Unfortunately, I had auto-lap on for the first lap and I got a 3 second "lap....

Re: Comparing Wheels in Profile 4

I will do my best! I suppose one idea from the proposed testing is to fold in the differences in rolling resistance as part of a total system efficiency standpoint. I’m starting to sound like a commercial for Enve or Zipp now. What I mean is that I know there are going to be some rolling resistance ...

Comparing Wheels in Profile 4

If the following conditions are met, can I compare different wheels using data collected on different days? -Same bike, rider, clothing, closed loop If so, how much data (i.e., how many loops) should I collect with each wheelset? I would be looking at each wheelset as a system (i.e., using the tires...

Re: Unscientifically Comparing Bikes

How is crr determined by AP? For the device setup, I use the same settings. Asphalt with premium clinchers at 85psi. I’m guessing that’s what leads to the .006 crr? Otherwise, wondering if AP is detecting how rough the road is where I do the calibration ride (not super rough, but not smooth either).

That helps tremendously. One of these days I’m going to do an actual Profile 4 proper experiment lol.

Re: Unscientifically Comparing Bikes

I would love feedback. There are definitely benefits to the all-rounder (well, one really--the gearing is more appropriate for how hilly it is here).

Attached the files.

Unscientifically Comparing Bikes

So, flat and rolling speed matter a lot to me on a bike. I had wanted to do an unscientific comparison of two bikes I own to see just how much more aero the the aero bike is than the all-rounder bike. I can only have one due to some financial circumstances that were outside of my control (my dog got...

So, it DID work. I was able to do a Profile 3 calibration and record a ride.

Which is going to lead to my next thread LOL.

Re: 1040 Compatibility

So, I was able to install an ancient version of the data fields from 2018, by downloading the .prg and placing it in the apps folder of the 1040. Whether it will actually work with Aeropod is a different story. Is there a way to download the latest .prg?

Re: 1040 Compatibility

Along with a bunch of other apps and data fields, the Aeropod data field isn’t available for the 1040 through the ConnectIQ store. I’m sure it works fine, it’s just Garmin being Garmin. Is there a way to load it without using the ConnectIQ store?

CdA Seems a Bit High (for once)

Especially when manipulating crr to around .0004 (typical settings). I'm riding heavy right now at 95kg (and dropping) and tried my favorite 10 mile rolling testing route today. Bike is an Aeroad with 62mm deep wheels, Enve 25c on the front and Enve 29c on the back, pumped to about 85psi. The route ...

Re: Calibration Ride Issue

From the information provided there is no way for me to figure out what happened. Here's the ride file that was supposed to be a calibration. Interestingly, it looks like it "begins" at the turn around point (i.e., when my Garmin read "50"). Weird. You can see from the GPS that ...

I would start over with your sensor pairing and calibration.

Calibration Ride Issue

I got a new out-front mount, so I decided to re-calibrate my AP. This time, I decided to use Profile 4. Rode a few miles to get to a slightly better place to calibrate. Unfortunately, there were literally two car accidents that meant that I had to deviate from the road I was on after I got to the pa...

Re: Crr calculation

I run my tires at about 90PSI, and I have been making comparative measurements for about 15 years now. So, you are getting the benefit of my experience. You can export your ride files in Isaac into csv format. You will get both PowerPod and DFPM data in the exported file. That’s helpful. Just out o...

Re: Crr calculation

Excellent thread. I'm trying to get a sense of a good, practical number for my Crr. The pavement here locally is not great, probably slightly worse than the average here in the US. Bicycle Rolling Resistance puts my tires at around 0.0035 at 100psi, but this is on a steel drum. I also tend to run m...

Re: Crr calculation

Hi all I am thinking why we can't use aeropod also to determine Crr. Crr is on the equation of motion of cyclist as well as CdA. So if we fix CdA, we could calculate Crr as only unknown factor of the equation. This could be helpful when in example your tests go a little bit too long and temperature...

Re: CdA Seems a Bit Low

You are a very strong rider, even on an easy ride! I think what is happening is that, in your sprints, your bike frame is flexing slightly, causing AP watts to be somewhat high. Where your readings differ in the sprints the differences are only for 1-2 seconds. This is enough to cause noticeable di...

Re: CdA Seems a Bit Low

Having some odd issues: On today's short (and pretty windy) ride, I wasn't really getting reliable CdA readings on my Garmin. Kinda seemed all over the place (dipped into the .29 range when riding on the tops, etc.). After uploading to Isaac, it seems to think that it was a calibration ride. After r...

Re: CdA Seems a Bit Low

Another dumb question: I can pull up my tires from Bicycle Rolling Resistance. Is it worth putting those numbers in? My front tire is a Conti GP Attack which BRR has listed at 0.00381 crr, with a Conti GP Force on the back listed at 0.00348 crr. I’m guessing one could average those and put that numb...

Re: CdA Seems a Bit Low

Your Crr rolling resistance is very high--0.0076. This is suitable for a mountain bike. Your prior photos show you're riding a road bike. If your tires are fully inflated your Crr should be about 0.004 I readjusted your ride file to reflect a Crr of 0.004. This drops about 33W from your opposing po...

So, had some trouble with the Profile 4 calibration ride (seemed to work and then the next ride seemed to be counted as a calibration ride, I don't know). Re: Aeropod Positioning

This is fine. As long as AP is not pointing excessively up (or down), at an angle greater than 25 degrees, it will work just fine. Thanks.
