Re: Testing of helmets - success reproducing results across sessions
Thank you. I just make an assumption about Crr, I have no way of testing it. The way I test, I'm effectively solving one equation with two unknowns, Crr and CdA. So yes, I'm looking for relative gains; as long as I'm improving my CdA, the absolute value matters less.

Re: Testing of helmets - success reproducing results across sessions
Just to follow up, I think I've figured out how to use Aerolab in Golden Cheetah (v3.5). Using weather station data from the day to calculate air density and the Aerolab settings in the picture below, I got the following CdA estimates: Screenshot 2020-09-08_19-50-03-178.png Screenshot 2020-09-08_19-...

Testing of helmets - success reproducing results across sessions
I'd like to share my recent experiences with the Aeropod and testing of CdA out in the field. A little background: I bought my Aeropod thru the kickstarter campaign, and initially I was disappointed with the reliability of the tests I did. I wrote about my findings on this messageboard, one thing le...

Just to follow up - this could be interesting for WKO5 users:
I've created a simple WKO report that displays the recorded CdA-numbers, making post-ride analysis of test sessions a bit faster:

Re: New AeroPod/PowerPod CdA app for Garmin devices
This is great! A big thank you to you, Oleksiy! Also, having the data recorded in the .fit file opens a lot of possibilities. I use the Aeropod, but I would also be very happy with a version with just two fields; CdA and wind speed. It would give a lot more options for composing screens. Best regard...

Re: CdA changes between headwind and tailwind - to be continued
Hello Hein, I'm not a physicist or an aerodynamics engineer, so I can't help with reference papers. However, it seems well-established that CdA changes with wind direction, hence all those tests of wheels at different yaw angles (here's one example: http://bikeblather.blogspot.com/2016/03/win-tunnel...

Re: Testing Results
I'm still working on my calibration ride skills. Finding out what matters and what doesn't - is it, as an example, OK to brake a little before making a u-turn on an out-and-back course? Yes, that seems to be OK. Just getting good at executing the process out in the field. I want to get to the point ...

Re: Testing Results
Hi Graham. Yes, I'm getting solid numbers, after a bit of practice. Like were you live, weather isn't great here in Denmark, the temperatures are near the freezing point and there are many windy days. So' I've put my AeroPod on my winterbike, complete with fenders, and I'm doing laps in an industria...

Re: From Good to Great - Wish List
Yes, the physics are what they are. A .001 resolution would be perfect, .004 is a little coarse.
I hope that the ideas presented above are useful.

Re: From Good to Great - Wish List
Just to elaborate on the data resolution point: A reduction in CdA of .004 from, say, .254 to .250 corresponds roughly to an efficiency gain of 4 watts when riding in the 40-45 km/h range.

From Good to Great - Wish List
Firstly, this is almost avantgarde, to be able to, as an ordinary masters time trialist, work with in-the-field, real time CdA analysis. It is huge that you have made this possible and affordable. So, please: the following is meant to be constructive, to help improve the AeroPod. It's already good, ...

Re: CdA changes between headwind and tailwind - to be expected?
Thank you. Yes, the corners may have an impact, but the overall tendency remains. CdA climbs with tailwind, falls with headwind. It would be interesting to see CdA-numbers without smoothing, to see how abrubt the change really is. Please, make CdA smoothing configurable, like smoothing of power numb...

Re: CdA changes between headwind and tailwind - to be expected?
Another view; the pattern is fairly consistent across the three laps. Noticeably, near the end of lap one, CdA is is unchanged for more than 1 km / almost 2 minutes.

Re: CdA changes between headwind and tailwind - to be expected?
Just a quick follow-up, I rode a few laps on a different course today. First of all, I'm impressed with the overall consistency of the CdA estimates across the laps. As you can see, the three laps resulted in CdA values of 0.258, 0.256 and 0.257, even though I had to coast a little on the third lap ...

Re: Differences in power-values between .ibr- & .fit-files
Got it, thank you. When I check the box, the power numbers align. It also seems that the power numbers exported in TCX-files follow the checkbox setting; that's good. Of course, only my opinion, but for me the estimated power numbers aren't of much value, and I would expect that they aren't for most...

Differences in power-values between .ibr- & .fit-files
Hello, has anyone else seen this? I'm getting significantly different power-values for intervals between the AeroPod .ibr-file and the data in the .fit-files with powerdata retransmitted from the AeroPod to my Garmin Edge 520: Screenshot 2018-11-15_21-44-12-428.jpg Screenshot 2018-11-15_21-46-26-091...

That makes sense - I'll look forward to that feature.
I guess the headwind / tailwind / elevation puzzle will take a little longer to figure out.

Re: CdA changes between headwind and tailwind - to be expected?
Oh. My starting point of the laps was very near the "climb", so a spurious correlation? But how does AeroPod know that I am hitting the lap-button on my Garmin - is that transmitted via ANT+ or is it the ConnectIQ App working magic under the hood? In any case, yes, this lap-CdA-reset is de...

Re: CdA changes between headwind and tailwind - to be expected?
Hello again, I've merged the GPS-info into the ride file; the TCX-format worked. Having done that, I noticed an interesting point, also pointed out in another thread: there is a small "climb" / "descent" on the course, depending on the direction taken, not more than 5 meters of a...

Re: CdA changes between headwind and tailwind - to be expected?
Thanks, I will give try to export the file and merge. It is a loop, I am doing laps and coasting as little as possible, but one of the two curves connecting the "taxi-runway" w. "the starting-runway" was not wide enough to permit going full gas thru it given the wind direction. T...

Re: What if AeroPod could be paired to a cycling computer as a heart rate monitor?
Yes, broader computer compatibility would be great, but being able to get CdA-averages for laps directly while testing in the field would be even better. Of course, with a official ANT+ CdA-profile, both goals can be met. That would be very nice.

What if AeroPod could be paired to a cycling computer as a heart rate monitor?
What if AeroPod could be paired to a cycling computer as a heart rate monitor? Imagine a setup where the AeroPod was paired to one's cycling computer as a heart rate monitor, and one's DFPM was paired to the AeroPod as well as to the cycling computer. The calibration process would be unchanged - it ...

CdA changes between headwind and tailwind - to be expected?
Hello, I've been doing my first tests with my aeropod. First of all, the calibration process works a lot better than the powerpod-process, very nice. Resultswise, I'm a little puzzled over the pattern of the results - the absolute level of the CdA-numbers don't bother me much at this time. I've done...
