Re: New AeroPod firmware 7.06

Noticed a small problem for racers using this firmware, it’s very rare that after warmup we will be able to spend 5 mins riding in a smooth, unbraked , no stopping fashion. It’s normally a quick ride to the start which almost always involves crossing roads, turning etc. Once into the race, for a tim...

Re: Aeropod v2

in fairness, I thought the Newton interface was complicated and this was a step up. After a couple of runs I've got quite used to the lights.

Re: Aeropod v2

Ouch, cut us a little slack... :-) The Newton includes our power measurement technology AND our built-in display. That means that we can design the Newton user interface (display) to show messages. Also, Newton has a 5 button control, which adds flexibility. Unfortunately, in the world of Garmin do...

Re: AeroPod beta firmware

Hi John,

Features 2 (lap Cda summary) and 5 are excellent, I really enjoyed that feature in Newton beta. 3. also makes test run analysis a lot easier. Thanks!!

Re: CdA changes between headwind and tailwind - to be expected?

John that sort of presentation for CdA analysis would be perfect for a future version of Isaac - the spotters among us love it!

Re: Aeropod v2

In terms of CdA changes, it is worth noting that at the Silverstone wind tunnel a *single* run is 4-5 minutes (ie takes that long to get meaningful data). Boardman tunnel is 2 minutes (built for bikes not F1 so shorter run time). So realistically having short smoothing *may*, and probably would, cre...

AeroPod Post Race File Analysis

Thought this might be interesting for folks to see, this is post race analysis for a rider using Aeropod today. The extractable CdA data is consistent with Chung calculations for this rider, coming out at 0.24 for the ride average (excluding the Rab 1-2-1 section, which is dreadfully surfaced bypass...

Re: Idiot's guide to pairing

Ah and I’ve just spotted a significant issue - Quarq do not have a speed sensor built in. You most definitely need a separate one. Would recommend Garmin hub sensor

Idiot's guide to pairing

NOTE: The original post is great but wasn't quite perfect; AP NEEDS TO BE PAIRED TO SENSORS BEFORE pairing AP to the Garmin. And, it's not necessary to click AP button after a cal ride. SO: the original post has been edited a bit to make it 100% correct. The instructions below can be used with confi...

I think that means your speed/cadence meter either isn’t paired or transmitting

Re: Aeropod in Velodrome

Hi Russell, I would think from what you are describing this is a speed or sensor pickup problem. I’m away from my laptop this weekend but happy to have a look through the files and if you’d like, can talk through testing outdoors. We had really good results with an old Newton running the beta firmwa...

I've had success with a Lifeline stem mount. Quite solid and inflexible.

Re: First impressions

That would help for sure - I think for people who’ve never touched a Velocomp product before the first time might be a bit confusing. Once you’ve done it, like anything else is second nature

Re: First impressions

What would be really awesome would be an app driven calibration- click icon to pair, click to start etc with display on Garmin.

Is that possible? I guess there is 2-way BT with the Powerhouse app

As far as I can see those mounts have industrial glue on them and are the same kind that downhill MTB racers use to secure their GoPros. Seem pretty secure

Re: First impressions

Hi Russel,

I am yes, just outside Guildford.

I agree the roadshow is a bit mentals - but it does show what the truth is about this stuff, it is NOT like strapping on a power meter. There is a lot of variance to control.

First impressions

Had confidence in Aeropod having beta tested the firmware with my old Newton. Pleased to say this is proving to be well placed confidence. Two long rides with Aeropod this weekend, howling games and rain. The CdA tracked really well, little issue with conditions (until the last few miles of today wi...

Re: TT bike mounting

I think one option for integrated bars would be an alloy dual 22mm Mount, ie one on each ski bar meeting in the middle with a GoPro Mount between the two, placed as close to the stem as possible, might work Too far forward and the vibrations will ruin the readings - tested this in beta testing and r...
