Re: Batch conversion ibr to csv or fit
Training Peaks needs csv, fit, tcx. Thanks for reply. I'll need a lot of time, patience and a good supply of bourbon to get this done.

Batch conversion ibr to csv or fit
Is it still the case that there's no way to do a mass conversion of ibr files to a Training Peaks readable format?
Thanks,
Thanks,

Newton toast?
From a ride today, Newton had slope values way too high and inconsistent. It never stabilized, even after 80 miles. Was OK on last ride, a few weeks ago. Didn't drop or mishandle in interim. Is it toast, can it be serviced? Ride file attached.

Newton not recording DFPM power
I've been using my Newton with both a Powertap wheel, on two bikes, and a Quarq Dzero on another. On two of my last 3 rides, one with Quarq and the other with Powertap GS, I went through a manual calibration of the DFPM using a Powertap Joule GPS unit and all looked fine. DFPM power was turned on in...

Re: Climbing power vs flats power
I have exactly the same issue with my Newton vs DFPMs, climbing power matches nicely but power on flats or gentler slopes is too high on Newton. After a lot of experimentation I found the iBike suggested CdA (.4) was too high. I lowered it to 0.26, along with a minor change of lowering the Crr to .0...

Re: How/when Newton reports DFPM reading?
Hmmm. The power readings during the ride were less jumpy (using DPS) and a better fit to my perceived effort than as is usual when viewing Newton power. Not using a cadence sensor may be an enhancement. A related question, when a DFPM is present but when "DFP display" is turned "off&q...

How/when Newton reports DFPM reading?
Did a ride today with a DFPM but I wanted to see Newton data during ride so turned off DFPM in Setup. A few minutes into ride I noticed the Newton was reporting Calories instead of Cadence in the lower screen, and then saw my cadence magnet on crank wasn't there, but I was getting power readings on ...

Newton is bad (ED: good) at math (equations of motion)
Having done two days of riding in hillier country than I usually ride I was taken back by the power numbers the Newton was reporting in real time, and which I saw in Isaac afterwards (and after an Analyze Route, which is obligatory to get the start and end elevations correct and to remove the headwi...

Re: FTP test and power numbers
Crr (coefficient of rolling resistance) has to do with your tire and tube rolling resistance, n ot aero factors like helmet etc. CdA is the drag factor of you and your bike, including your clothing, helmet, wheels, frame design etc. A Crr of .0053 is quite high, might be correct if you're using Gato...

Re: FTP test and power numbers
If your average power over 20 minutes is 248 then your FTP is 95% of that, by common convention, or 236. If you think the number is too high then check what you have entered in your profile in ISAAC for Crr and CdA. With racing tires (e.g., any 320 tpi tire, Conti Supersonic or TT, Specialized Turbo...

Re: Cal and kJ
There's a difference between the total energy your body burns and the energy used as motive force. Only about 25% of the total energy your body uses during a ride is available for propulsion, the rest is dissipated as heat. To put it another way, if you want to burn 500 kcal (calories as we normally...

OK for not modifying Aero, Fric and Riding Tilt. But what is Wind Scaling and why would one modify it (instead of or in addition to CdA)? I just looked through the new manual and all I could find on that was a statement on page 30 that says, after explaining modifying Crr, "In this same manner ...

..how do I deal with them in various ISAAC utilities like "Edit Profile"? - Aero - Wind Scaling - Fric - Riding Tilt For example, if I want to adjust my CdA I have to choose to "Hold" either Aero or Wind Scaling. Which should I choose, and why? Thanks, P.S. Did you ever figure ou...

Re: Need help with calibration
I finally got outside to do another ride with the Ptap and Newton. Different bike this time, also recent Cal ride. The results are closer when viewed in ISAAC than the last ride we discussed. But here's an effect I noticed not just today, but with that previous ride and most others: during the ride ...

Need help with calibration
I picked up a Powertap wheel and a Joule, I've been riding with them along with the Newton. The Newton is wildly off, even after doing a new Cal ride, usually 40 to 80 watts too high, particularly on the flats and going down even slight slopes. It's just a little better going uphill, the steeper and...

Summarizing requirements for PowerTap wheel w/Newton
Let me know if I'm correct in the requirements for using a Ptap wheel w/Newton, indoors and out, in order to get PTap power reported on Newton. Where I'm wrong please give correct procedure. DFPM is turned "On" in the Newton setup screen. Indoors on trainer -must have an external Ant+ (not...

Yes, it's a Garmin combined spd and cad sensor. I'll replace. Sounds like you're recommending separate spd and cad sensors, which would you recommend?

Re: Newton goes bonkers
Hi John, I replaced the battery before today's ride, and did a data reset, but had the same problems: wildly fluctuating slope and wind readings, incorrect speed readings, along with the mileage being lower than actual. I can understand speed and distance being off if the spd/cad sensor is failing b...

Newton goes bonkers
The Newton worked fine yesterday, but today it went insane. First cold morning for the Newton this year, about 33 at start, it was indoors until the ride start. The first 3 miles look spot on, both in real time and in Isaac, similar to all my other rides. At that point, a stop light and first stop, ...

Upgrade to FW 5.13 changed button action(s)
I just did a firmware upgrade to FW 5.13 on an older Newton, one where you can select ride profiles directly on the device itself. At the end of each ride I was in the habit of holding the center button for a few seconds to do a trip reset before walking my bike in the driveway and into garage, or a...

Started experimenting with this mode for ad hoc interval sessions. Couple things: - if I enter the FT while the bike is moving it automatically goes to the FT mode (TT or user) that it was in last and I don't have the option of selecting a different mode, unless I stop the bike and let the speed rea...

Re: Wind readings inconsistent
Is there anything I can do to this unit to improve the wind readings? I went for a ride today and the wind it read was completely off. Re: Wind readings inconsistent
Thanks for that. Makes a lot more sense. I used your procedure and did the same but also tweaked the Crr as I saw I was using a stock number (.004) and the tires/tubes I used have a measured Crr of .003 which brings the average power down just a couple watts. Question: how did the Newton get so out ...

Re: Wind readings inconsistent
Attached is another file re: questionable wind readings. The middle lap, ending at mile 6.5, represents 6 circuits of an almost 1 mile, roughly oval course, oriented North-South. The wind was from the wnw. It just seems impossible that I'd get an average negative of wind of 2.5 mph for a trip like t...

Wind readings inconsistent
Did a ride yesterday, basically out and back with only a two mile section different but on parallel roads (roughly miles 10.3 to 12.3 on way out and 20.3 to 22.3 on way home) It was a south to north to south ride, wind was reported out of east at about 4mph. The first 10 miles north Isaac shows a he...

Re: Accuracy of Watts vs other PM
My readings seem too high at times as well, some things can be corrected, some I don't think can be. Correctable - don't use the IBike suggestions for Crr and CDA, they're probably too high causing larger power numbers than you're really pulling. With good tires (e.g., almost any 320 tpi tire, Conti...

Does the Newton account for, in its power computations, temperature? Now that it's cold I'm wondering if the watts adjust for increased air density vs the calibration ride temp, or any physiological or other effects of near freezing temperatures. Thanks,

Re: Tire rolling resistance
Here's another test done on a smooth roller, as far as I can tell, which seems a lot closer to the roads I ride vs the surface of the roller in the test you referenced (if I ever found myself on a road like that I'd get off it pronto, looks very unrealistic IMHO). Results have a good deal of similar...
