Re: ConnectIQ app developer needed
The need for Connect IQ would probably not be necessary if Garmin/ANT sorted out an aerodynamics profile. It’s been ages. Any idea why it’s taking so long? Personally, I think it suits Garmin. I’m trapped to buying Garmin Bike Computers because I already have an Aeropod. I’ve suggested Wahoo reverse...

Re: Joint announcement with Notio
I thought ANT+ was only Garmin official profiles and so it wasn’t possible to create ANT+ profiles without involving Garmin and so this would be an open ANT (no plus) profile? I still don’t quite see the point unless you can convince other bike-computer manufacturers to implement the open protocol. ...

Joint announcement with Notio
What does the joint announcement with NOTIO actually mean without an ANT+ or BT profile? I can’t see how this effect things. Does it mean that you can use each other’s Connect IQ Apps? Or are you hoping other bike computer manufacturers, such as Wahoo, use it? I don’t really understand what this act...

Re: Rolling resistance estimation
As well as temperature rolling resistance also varies with wetness of the road. Ages ago I wondered about this after noticing that it felt very different. From memory the only research I found that was published was using thicker tyres eg. Trailer. A similarly small difference though. No idea how th...

Re: real time display
Is it possible that some extremely simple data could be transmitted, particularly where an ANT+ data type already exists?
For example, pedal smoothness & L/R balance? For smoothness you could just transmit variability and copy the standard bodge for L/R balance.

Re: AeroPod CdA Connect IQ app for Garmin
On the 530. Given up on connecting the watch via usb with this firmware.
I thought of a problem with my plan of testing it by putting in front of a fan though: the cal ride.

Re: AeroPod CdA Connect IQ app for Garmin
I did an experiment last night before your reply & I think you guess right. I created a new profile called TT on it and followed your instructions. It seems to have worked, but unfortunately I can’t test it as my one bike with a DFPM has no brakes currently. I removed them to hide them from the ...

Sod. The watch is flakey over USB. Do you think it can be installed on an Edge 530? It’s very similar to a 520 and always appears via USB.

Re: AeroPod CdA Connect IQ app for Garmin
Do you happen to know if it requires a USB connection to the device? My forerunner 735XT is very temperamental about connecting over USB, but connects to the Garmin phone app over Bluetooth fine. My Garmin account has the watch registered, it just doesn’t appear in the ‘Garmin Express’ app much. Wha...

Accuracy loss in profile 1-3 on removing pitot tube
The button on my aeropod stopped working and it’s with you now, but as part of my initial troubleshooting I reset it to factory settings; so I’m going to have to do a new calibration ride anyway: was wondering if I remove the pitot tube before the tide on the commuter bike how much accuracy loss wil...

There’s stuff for big tyres that’s quite easy to find. For example: https://www.researchgate.net/publicatio ... resistance
Not seen anything on bike tyres though.

Re: Is there any point varying CRR with temperature?
No, but I never looked for it. Temperature seemed important when I looked for the effect of rain though & the method of testing for tyre rolling resistance almost always keeps it the same. I would bet some of these tyre testing labs have tested for a temperature effect, but not published it &...

Is there any point varying CRR with temperature?
This is actually something I came across ages ago when reading on rolling resistance in rain, but forgot. Essentially, at least in bigger tyres, a small amount of water decreased rolling resistance, but more increased it (assuming road temperature was not changed by the rain). They had to keep tempe...

Yeah, when I looked it was mostly other wheel types with patterned treads. For example: http://www.davidpublisher.org/Public/uploads/Contribute/566e64a472e9f.pdf I was actually thinking more about being outside and caught in a sudden downpour. You don’t change clothing or anything, but going it feel...

Rolling resistance in the rain
Just caught the end of today’s stage of the Giro d’Italia, which was very wet. The calculations for CdA and power in the other profiles require an estimate of rolling resistance. The device could possibly detect actual puddles using the accelerometer & adjust the rolling resistance? But, riding ...

Re: AeroPod CdA Connect IQ app for Garmin
The device I’ve purchased is still on pre-order (Edge 530). The predicted shipping is mid-May, although I wouldn’t be surprised if it was later. Is the aeropod Connect IQ thing going to appear in the Connect IQ store and, if so, do you guess it will appear by then?

Re: AeroPod CdA Connect IQ app for Garmin
I’ve finally got a device with Connect IQ, or will shortly. Garmin have recently released a new streamlined way of getting apps onto the device. Just searched in the new ‘connect IQ’ App for you. Can’t see it. I’ve tried ‘aeropod’ and ‘velocomp’: are you in the Connect IQ store?

Just to let you know your instructions on how to manually update the firmware using the Mac software worked perfectly.
I’m guessing the PC software has a similar interface & they could do the same if they are having problems?

Re: 4k video about AeroPod featuring Steve Jackson, elite triathlete
The thing that most surprised me about the video is the mount he used (as well as the magnitude of CdA change). I thought it had to be really firmly attached, but he was getting away with a click-in GoPro mount.

If I’m using Profile 4 but there is some messing around getting somewhere quiet would I just re-do the calibration ride as normal when I get there?

Re: New AeroPod firmware 7.06
As regards the 5 minute warm up: does that apply to the profiles that don’t have CdA? My cycles to the swimming pool and heath to run both require stopping at red lights, surging on greens & there are lots of 90° turns. I don’t actually need super accuracy there anyway - main use is to avoid get...

Re: CdA changes between headwind and tailwind - to be expected?
I’ve wondered before if effective weight varies with airspeed & if the effect is significant. Just imagining a cyclist I can easily see an aerofoil type effect at higher speeds, with higher pressure underneath the rider than above the back. I can’t remember the formula for CRR but I think it is ...

What about headunits that connect via Bluetooth rather than Ant+? Have you any idea if the Bluetooth Special Interest Group are going to release a Bluetooth CdA profile? I’m thinking mostly about Bluetooth connected phone apps and the newer Suunto watches mainly.

Re: Broke my Aeropod racking my bike in a Triathlon
Thanks, I am actually going to do that. I was already going to remove it for bike transport, but will reattach when loading food/drink. My experience is that it is actually other competitors that bash things. I used to have a magnet based speed sensor and someone knocked it off so my Newton+ went to...

Re: Upgrading from Newton to Aeropod, & Wahoo TICKR
my previously preferred App, run meter/cyclemeter, doesn't appear to compatible with multiple device types over bluetooth e.g.. aeropod and even indoor trainer. The only good bit to the app is that it can be started using Siri (since iOS 12); not sure that one feature is worth paying for a subscript...

Re: What is AeroPod where does it inthe whole scheme of things?
I really hate all the complex button pushing. Newton is MUCH simpler. I agree, but I think we might be in the minority, though you’ve made me think - I’m going to resurrect a 2013 Wahoo RFLKT+. The 4 buttons aren’t as easy to hit as the middle one on a Newton, but they’re real and don’t need specia...
