Re: Swapped bars & stem
Davidson_ibike.jpg I find this an interesting view. I don't know track details but is the up and down slope properly unequal for the track? If not, then bike tilt correction may be off, of course dynamics of high and lower power may skew the tilt too. Other wise It looks reasonable to me (maybe I s...

Re: Swapped bars & stem
Thanks guys. I had wondered about the viability of the upside-down option. Or just right way up and duct tape the screen for races. We're at the track again this weekend so will decide & action by then. Pete, Best to ask the commissaires if your allowed to have a computer with duct tape over th...

Re: Swapped bars & stem
I think the Cal Ride complexity here is that, when the Newton is mounted upside down, the accelerometer thinks that down is up and up is down. This would tend to confuse the Newton during cornering, but not while the slope is unchanged. I'd love to see one of Steve's ride files. John, Attached is t...

Re: Swapped bars & stem
Hi I recently swapped out the bars & stem on our track bike. I also changed the mounting from bar to stem. Due to being rushed that day and the difficulty of doing a cal ride for track bikes, I just did a tilt cal with the new setup and left the profile otherwise the same. After the loading the...

Re: Strange behaviour at start of ride file
This is indicative of a wildly "off" tilt cal. After 5 minutes of riding the FW figured things out. Please check your tilt calibration and let us know if this problem continues. Thanks. I've checked that and it looks like it was off. I didn't have the slope checked on the screen display b...

Strange behaviour at start of ride file
Had a strange issue today with my Newton where it showed zero power for most of the first 8 minutes of a ride and a few sporadic low power bursts. The remainder of the ride showed some reasonable readings when going up some hills but reverted to the very low/zero power with a few bursts later in the...

Re: Dash: Pros and Cons
Yes, I always use torque wrenches, the only thing that I can see happening is that the long lever effect of the dash is causing the steerer tube bolt to vibrate loose( rough roads here), I usually tighten it until no play in headset, then torque the stem bolts to 5NM. Wonder if a bit of loctite wou...

Re: Dash, not great battery life in my hands
John, Thanks, but I am willing to bet the battery power is a 3d Gen iPod Touch issue, not Dash. There seems to be some buzz on different forums on decreased battery life with at least some 3d gen iPod Touches, especially with one of the software upgrades. My power issues sound very much in line wit...

Re: iBike app is available!
At long last the iBike app is available at the iTunes Store. This is our "Release 1.0" version (actually, release 1.0.2). Even though we are very pleased with this app, we already have LOTS of things we plan to add. Even without an iBike Dash you'll be able to download the app and try it ...

Re: Some key features of the iBike Dash
John, I've just been checking out the details of the iDash in your on-line store and was wondering why there are selections for iphone4, 3gs and ipod touch. Is there a difference or can you use an ipod or iphone in the same unit? I've managed to get an ipod touch but may get an iphone in the future ...

Re: Ibike dash
There's even a trade in option for iBike owners. Presumably GPS and maps functionality is only limited to iPhones as iPod Touch doesn't have GPS? Or is it like the Tom Tom car mount with a built in GPS chip enabling iPod Touch use? It looks cool 8-) I would imagine the ipod touch battery life would...

Re: Tacx flow
I have a tacx flow and none of the profiles match it in my ibike for windows You won't be able to match a profile to a Tacx flow because it has literally hundreds of different resistance curves based on the settings you chose. FWIW I had one and found the power numbers to be wildly inaccurate and i...

Re: External Battery Question
I chose 2xAAA because they were easier for me to use because I don't have soldering equipment and I couldnt find a holder for the c123a. Both the 2xAAA and the cr123a should provide 3 volts. I am pretty sure that I saw posts from other users saying they used 2xAAA too. But my iBike definitely does ...

Re: Aero testing - Cal Rides
I don't worry so much about speed when aero testing, although putting in some efforts can be a good thing to see how well you are holding position while racing. If you have a good 2-4 mile stretch of road then do you coastdowns and out and back ride on this road (if you have a DFPM, then just do th...

Aero testing - Cal Rides
Is there a speed where you should make sure you are in the 'position' to be tested when starting a cal ride? And also likewise when slowing to turn round and accelerating back up to speed. Really looking at TT position testing and just want to make sure that only the TT position is being calibrated....

Re: iAero "Filter" function
The filter is a very slight one. Seeing the power numbers change and trying to lessen that change while doing intervals is one of the key points in power training. It makes a more effective rider. The filter we enabled was mainly to deal with the 2800 watt spikes that the wireless SRM would send ou...

[/quote] Steve, can you give us an idea of the +/-magnitude or percentage of power vs speed variance that you've seen (I don't have a DFPM, so I'm curious...)? Re: trainers
I have not used a trainer before but have just bought a cyclo ops fluid2. Two quick questions. 1. How do you decide how hard to set the resistance of the roller against the wheel? I appreciate a trainer will always seem harder than riding on the road for a given speed etc but presumably the idea is...

Re: Battery Life in Head Unit
I finally have a setup that looks nice and adds voltage to the ibike. I can measure voltage coming through the contacts at 3.15V, but when I put the ibike on there without a battery in it there is not enough amperage to turn it on. Is this a valid test for if my set up is working or not? For my set...

Re: Aero testing - using the time advantage feature
Thanks Boyd. Yeah, I've used virtually every method there is for aero testing and the VE method with wind data has given me my best results. What I'm trying to do is to make it as simple as possible for someone who doesn't want to spend time analysing the results on the PC. We've got a concrete cycl...

Aero testing - using the time advantage feature
A friend of mine has recently taken the plunge and upgraded his SRM to the new wireless model and purchased an iAero with RWS. We compete against each other at club and open TT events and I've been creeping closer to him since I started tweaking my position with the iAero in the last few months of t...

Re: New iAero mount
The tilt seems fine on the few rides I've done with it but I don't tend to pull on the extensions. My riding tilt comes out about -0.4% which is about the same as my riding tilt on my road bike. The stem mount is simply screwed through the bottom of the carbon tube. The top of the carbon tube is dri...

New iAero mount
Guys, I've cobbled together a new mount for my iAero for use on the aero bars. Basically used a cut-off section from old tri bar extension, filed out a section to allow the stem mount to be screwed into it, and used some nylon clamps from bicycle reflectors and in true Graeme Obree style, an old pie...

Lovely bike 8-) I've got the same problem on my TT bike that I have to remove one of the arm rests to twist the unit on and off the mount when it's on the stem as I like the armrests close together. The top tube is not ideal as you wouldn't be able to see the unit very well. Only things I can sugges...

Has anyone experienced an increase in CdA while getting lower and flatter backed in the TT position? I had been about 2in higher at the front, along with a slight upslope of the Aerobars. But dropping the front end to achieve a flat back and aerobars horizontal, the iAero suggests I was loosing tim...
