PP recalibration after shipping bike?
I'll be stripping the bike soon, in preparation for some aircraft travel. When reassembling I'm sure that, despite my best efforts, the handlebars won't be in exactly the same position as previously and they might be a degree or so out. Question......do I need to re-calibrate the PP (and if so, how ...

Re: Wireless ID query
Hi John, UK temperatures a lot better now :) However, the PP definitely isn't any better :( Here's the file from today's ride. PP started up fine. Single click, flashing green, solid green....off we go. It output power figures for 15 minutes and then stopped. On this occasion, rather than hard-reset...

Re: Wireless ID query
Thanks John. I did wonder if it might be rapid temperature drop causing the problem? My Garmin (which had sat on the office desk next to the PP all night) showed a start temperature of 59 degrees F. During the ride it dropped quickly down to 39 F. As the PP was stable for the rest of the day once it...

Re: Wireless ID query
I have not seen this problem reported by anyone else. When the PP stops working, what happens when you click its button (before doing a hard reset)? Does the light turn on? If so, what color? Nothing. Tried doing a single click as a simple wake up. No response. Tried doing a four-second hold. No re...

Re: Wireless ID query
Thanks John, The battery is fully charged. Yes....I expect it to go to sleep (20 mins of inactivity?) so I know to wake it up with a single click after spinning the wheel and the cranks. The underlying issue is that I have no option but to do the hard-reset after between 10 and 40 minutes as it stop...

Re: Wireless ID query
Hi John, Thank you for the patches sent through at the weekend. Very much appreciated. That has cured the issues of the wireless IDs for cadence + HR, and partially solved the ride-length problem. However, my rides over the past few days have brought the following result:- 1) Start up the PP with a ...

For information, also attached is the Garmin output from that same ride. It can be seen that the PP was outputting power figures for several miles, but none of these were recorded.

Re: Wireless ID query
Thanks John, Should the PP also pair with a cadence sensor and a hear-rate sensor, similarly to the speed sensor, or does it just look for a speed sensor? I know that my cadence and HR sensors are awake before perform the PP pairing function, as I have checked that my Garmin can see them, but those ...

Wireless ID query
I have acquired a set of the new Garmin 'magnetless' sensors. Pairing the separate speed and cadence sensors with my Garmin head unit I can see that the IDs are 635932 (speed) and 635018 (cadence). Initially, I did try to enter these IDs manually using Isaac, but it wouldn't retain the six digit num...

@Bike4Him
Very neat. Thanks for posting.
Is it solid enough to avoid the iBike showing any vibration issues?

Re: Struggling with ibike for TTing
@gerrard I'm certainly no expert on profiles and I'm trying learn as much as I can from the gurus. No doubt the experts will be along shortly, but my observations would be:- 1) Wind scaling looks high. You and I look to be about the same size, and on my TT bike I was advised to go to circa 0.700. 2)...

Re: Struggling with ibike for TTing
I must say I agree that there can be some variances using the iBike on a trainer, I tend to see bigger numbers when I use it on a trainer too. I use a CycleOps Fluid 2. We are also creating a software that will be available shortly to help "tweak" your profile. The program will recognize ...

Re: Another missing watts query
Thanks Fernando, I will try the adjustments you have suggested.
There are three or four places where I have to coast as the TT route negotiates several roundabouts. The one at 6.2 miles is very small and tight, usually with traffic.

Re: Another missing watts query
Thanks again Fernando. Photos attached. It's a standard low-angle stem mount. It has the green stickies underneath (cut to shape and hence they don't show up against the white stem). Mount is good and solid. The RWS is taped around just to make it look less like a drinking tube. The elastic band is ...

Re: Another missing watts query
Thanks Fernando. That 2c is most useful. :) I am wondering if this might be a 'vibration' issue. Looking closely at a couple of sections where the power drops to zero or thereabouts eg mile 6.7 the slope shows at -5%, whereas on the way outwards, the same spot in the road at mile 5.8 it shows as jus...

Another missing watts query
I'm using my Gen III iPro mainly on my time trial bike in races (it's a stem mount and the RWS out on the right hand brake lever). On the flats and upslopes I'm getting sensible figures, but on down slopes I am beating my brains out and getting very low figures. Attached are three files showing the ...

Re: Strange Readings
I'm no expert, but I did notice that the Crr on the 30km file shows -0.0130 ie somehow this has been recorded as a negative figure. This has meant that your Rolling Resistance watts are shown as -99, whereas they probably should be about +40. A more likely Crr would be circa 0.0050 Another calibrati...

Re: Nashbar Reduced Radius Rollers
Used to ride roller racing leagues about 20 years ago. That was on track bikes, so I'd suggest that bike control was possibly a bit easier with fixed wheel. And yes, riding out of the saddle can be done, but you have to get your body lower, with fairly high leg speed and contol the front end to keep...

Re: what actually is FRIC, help with profile please
Geoff, what numbers did you pump into the spreadsheet?
I think I picked up from elsewhere that your Cda is 0.230, and putting in your Crr of 0.0035 and your all-up weight of 82kgs, it calculates 30mph as 376 watts.

Re: what actually is FRIC, help with profile please
Hi Geoff, You might find the link to this spreadsheet useful. Just put in your Cda,Crr and weight (note: in kgs) and the formulae will give you the theoretical watts:- http://www.demon-cycles.co.uk/files/cda_crr%20v0.01.xls The bottom of the page shows the assumptions used and the credits for where ...

Re: what actually is FRIC, help with profile please
The only comment I'd make on the profile (hopefully helpful) is that a Crr of 0.0033 seems awfully low to me. You probably have much better road surfaces than we have in the UK, but even on my own TT bike which has Vittoria CX tubulars at 120psi I've struggled to get below 0.0055. With regards to th...

Re: A lot of questions and picture request on Ibike power meter
I did not like the mounted profile of the iBike. For me it sat way too high and way to far forward on the bar. If you mount it on the stem it's even worse. I saw one mounted on the stem with epoxy. Still sat too high and the guy epoxied the mount to a high dollar carbon stem...permanently I created...

Just to close this one off, the Velocomp shipping dept are sending me some spare rings (thanks to Jay, Sandy and Aaron).
I know that the standard shipping rate to the UK is $40 but they've very kindly dropped me a few into an envelope.
