AeroPod helps achieve lifetime personal-best 25 mile time trial

Post by Velocomp »

One of our AeroPod beta testers is an avid--and accomplished--time trialist.

Dave has been CdA tested in a wind tunnel, and also in a velodrome.

He reports that his AeroPod prototype reports CdA within .005 of his wind-tunnel-measured CdA. That's cool.

But what is really great is what he reported just a few days ago:

1) He used a wind tunnel to find his most streamlined position. Call this his "super aero" position.

2) Riding in the real world with his "super-aero" ride position turned out to be BAD for his speed, because in the super-aero position he could not produce as much power. In other words, his time trial times were SLOWER in his super-aero position.

3) Also, when riding on rough roads, he has to lift his head from his super-aero position. Riding on a velodrome track does not reveal this problem (velodrome tracks are smooth), nor does it tell him what the CdA "cost" of moving his head would be due to the rough road (how can he know how much his head moves)?

4) Using his AeroPod, and riding on his normal roads, he found the best-compromise between his super-aero position and his best-power position.

5) Riding with his AeroPod-determined ride position, he recently achieved a lifetime personal best on a 25 mile time trial--on a course, he says, that is not particularly fast. In fact, he says he has gone slower, on faster courses.

This is a great way to use AeroPod to help you ride faster and smarter.
