Powerpod V3 Lite - Issues

Post by jamball »

Hi there,

Attaching two files.....my Strava recording using a Wahoo Elemnt Bolt and my PowerPod file. A few month back, you sent me a corrected profile which I've been using and out of the blue, the power appears to be inaccurate again. I am meticulous in how I mount the powerpod, tilting it forward til it stops each time.

Two iBike files attached.....first one from the first couple of miles where power was really bad. Second after I reset it and it seemed to be better, but became very inconsistent.

What goes wrong and why?? It's extremely frustrating. It's causing me to lose track of fitness/fatigure/form measurements because of the lack of accuracy.

I'm sorry you're having problems.

It appears that your wind port is blocked; the wind readings are close to zero...

Please post a photo showing how your PP is mounted on your bike. Side and front views will be fine.

Hey there,

I've attached 2 images. The PP is centrally positioned, with nothing in front of it. What's strange, is that it has worked well in the past. I got it in April/May 2020, and it worked well I think until about August. I've had no change in mounting since.

I've also just completed another ride with it, about 60km out and back and it seemed to work well for the whole ride. I've included the iBike file and a link to my strava file.

The iBike file looks like it just captured a couple of miles in total. Yet, I had watt readings that all seemed accurate, for the whole ride.

This ride looks perfect.

PP Lite records internally only the first 10 minutes of each ride, but that's enough info to show that it is working.

Ah ok cool. Wasn't aware of the internal limits.

So what about the other inconsistent rides? What goes wrong do you think?

I don't know what caused those problems. Did you ride in rain or mist?

Yes, it was very misty alright on the day for the ride above. I had wondered if rain was an issue, but thought that there was a drain in the unit to let water out. I had the original PP and had no issue with rain ever.

Is rain an known issue for PP Lite?

I live in Ireland and so we get a nice bit of rain :)

That explains it. You should probably purchase a pitot tube. That will help things

The pitot tube greatly lengthens the distance between the wind sensor and the air intake port. If it's raining it is less likely that rain will impinge on the wind sensor.

After installing the pitot tube make sure your unit is pointed slightly down (maybe 10 degrees). This helps to drain any water/mist that gets into the pitot tube.

Great!

Will I need to recalibrate with the new tilt angle or will PP work it out for me?

Thanks John. Appreciate the guidance

Just ordered one

You should do a new cal ride after installing the pitot tube.
