PowerPod Battery Charge Level

I did not do my regular service which includes charging and downloading data in the PP. I had 8 rides when I started my group ride. My Garmin 1030 showed a display that the power meter battery was low. Anyway it lasted for 1 hour 27 minutes. My question is if the Garmin could display that the battery level was low why can't percent charge be reported?
