Using PowerPod with a custom static trainer

Post by darthmonkey »

I have an old static magnetic trainer which broke, so I decided to add a treadmill motor to it, in order to provide resistance.
It also happens to be generating power, but for the purposes of this question the power and therefore resistance, will be consistant.

I'd like to know if it's possible to 'measure' the resistance based on cadence and speed given known parameters like wheel circumfrence etc. and therefore create a custom static trainer profile to use with the PowerPod.
If so how would I go about it?

If it's not possible to do that, can I calibrate it by feel alone? The motor when attached to a battery, acts much like a mag trainer, and I can stick it in a medium gear and get it up to 30kph at what feels like my average on the road which is about 230w.

Thanks in advance for any help.

You can create a customized trainer profile in Isaac. I would do it based on feel.
