new powerpod ble - is it ok?

Post by kdx200 »

Hi,
ive just received the pp ble and went to do the 5 minute cal ride. the first time i was very frightned and dont know what i did!!... then i did this first ride and think its ok.

Since i dont know the correct numbers (i think the process was ok) please, tell me if this file is good.

is near my house, with some "edges" in some corners (hate them with this bike). Also when was possible, i made AERO position in the TT bars. (very little... 300 or 400 meters). Never draft.
my p3 bike is about 10 kilos and me 72 kilos and 174cm height.
the pp is attached with TT COMBO from you.

then, i did a 35kmts ride.... from house to a circuit that is the better near here. I tried to do a 20 test ride (the 20 minute in the TT aero position) but dont know if its ok.

thanks for your help!!!

Your FTP test is solid, but the profile is off a little bit. I fixed it for you.

Corrected profile and ride file are attached.

Your FTP is 95% of 259W.

thank you for your patience also.

very good!!! done!!

and the reading are ok? the PP is firmly attacched?
when i was coming back home the instantant power reading show obviusly variations but sometimes (i was pedaling ALL time) at 0...for about one/two second ... repeating all time... (check a large straight AFTER the oval circuit going to home). I thought "maybe the pp is not firmly attached"...but i then i checked and was ok.

Were you riding in a group on the way back? You have some significant tail winds for part of the return ride...

no ...always alone and never doing draft... the large straight coming back home is a large avenue nearly empty on sundays and some cars passing you VERY near at 80-100 kilometers an hour :(((

Hmm...your wind speed is low in that one section. Please post photos of your PowerPod mounted on your bike, top, side and front views

Looks good!

Be aware that your left hand, when on the aero bars, is in the general vicinity of the PP wind port. This is NOT a problem, except if you inadvertently position your hand in a way that disturbs the wind flow. You had ZERO problems during your FTP test. It's possible you moved your hand around some in the section where wind was low, but this is just a guess.

I'd keep riding.

Hi John!
i did a new ftp test with your upgraded files to the PP.
in this case i tried to be prolix with the ftp protocol... warm up, test, cooling down, etc..

1. when i left home push the pp buton to wake up.... in the screen the 0w was a fix... suddenly a 30...a 60...then 0 again and showed 0 for a while.... is it ok?
then it shows rare numbers... 130....150..then 0 for a while and finally ok! in this time i only was focused on riding and warm up...

2. then in the track did some more intensive warm up and then the FTP..

3. it was some windy...i did a good effort in progresive way the 20 minute (i think 90-95% h rate). in 2 oportunties i did a brake (slowing down a lot . NOT 0kmh) to avoid collision..i think for about a 15 second...and in other time for a 10 second slow down. Did this 2 "braking" affect to the FTP test? i mean in a bad and notoriuos way.

4. did you notice something wrong?

thank you very much!

You PP recalibrated itself during the first 8 minutes of the ride.

FTP looks OK, though it is better to do these kinds of tests in less windy conditions (it is easier to hold constant power).

Short braking would affect your FTP in only a minor way.

oh thanks! your comments are very aprrecited

the strange thing is the other file i ran the ftp was slower (36kmh vs actual 38kmh and also de HR was 85% vs 95%, i felt the maxium effort at the end ) and did a more power ftp (something like 270 vs actual 255) in the same track.
is this correct? it this the wind effect?

thank you very much!!

Performance testing in strong winds is a difficult thing to pull off. This is not so much the power meter as the cyclist, because it is difficult to maintain an even power output when the winds are blasting you from the front and the rear.

John, very clear!

sending a new file. I think all is ok but i was the 3 hour ride looking at the screen to learn about this/ypur comments and be friendly with the numbers.
In some part of the ride (nobody near me at the track) the numbers went to 0w....and 0w and 0w.... strange... then about 1 minute later (perhaps 2) they appeared again. Ive never stop pedalling during this 0w.
take a look please.

thank you very much.

I'm seeing occasional speed sensor dropouts in your file. These aren't problematic overall but they could cause short-lived 0 watts.

If you have your speed sensor on your rear hub please move it to your front wheel hub.

You might also benefit from changing the batteries in your sensors.

John, thank you.
the garmin sensor is actually in front hub and has new fresh batteries!!!

so, iam being close friends with the PP each day...! i have a question: is there a manual/documentation for the "advanced profile"? iam a good student and need to know how this numbers affects my rides.
ive just take a look to the numbers but dont know where am i. is it 0.972 in aero ok? is it a good number for my body / bike? wind scaling 2,80..the same... is it good? i dont know if 2.8 is ok or it must be 1.7 for example. Frics calcs ..the same way.. 6.757 is good?
this numbers (i think) are from the file you sent me "tweaked" and were sent to the pp. aim attaching a file for rerence.

thank you very much!

Consult Isaac instructions (available from the Help menu of Isaac) to learn more about how to manipulate the profile numbers.

I remain suspicious about your speed sensor. Are you riding in a Velodrome?

yes John... i told you a "track" but is a velodrome in fact. Thats why i told you that i was looking all the 3 hours to the screen (crazy?) and in the time the signal dropped i was ALONE, no bikes or people near. (near = at least 30 meters from me)

thank you!

It is possible that there is some kind of radio interference in the Velodrome. Again, the dropouts are very sporadic, so it is nothing to be worried about.

Hi,
ive just did a "cal ride" since never been done.
Ive always use your data for the first time you sent and never touch them. I trained with the given numbers. Now, i finished my season and did the cal ride to see/check the numbers and soon ill be doing my new ftp.
So, the new numbers (cda, wind scalling and aero) are very different. (the PP, mount place, me , bike, etc etc are the same).
Are they ok? or i must keep the "old" numbers?

thank you very much,
ale

Just to confirm: you are riding a TT bike?

If so this calibration looks good.

Yes, the same TT as the pictures sent in the begining of this post.

So, the old numbers were wrong?
Is There a sustancial change in power numbers?

Thank you very much!
