Force PowerPod to start a new IBR file?

Is there a way to force PowerPod to create a new IBR file? This is what happened last night. I reset PowerPod to factory and did the initial calibration. After the calibration, i did a short ride around the neighborhood to see how the power numbers would match up with a Quarq Riken AL power meter. Toward the end, i decided i want to do an out and back ride to be able to allow re-calibration using a DFPM. I had assumed incorrectly that pressing the button on the PowerPod would force it to write to a new IBR file. So i went and started a new ride on my Garmin (paired with the DFPM) and did an out-and-back ride. When i loaded the ride file from the PowerPod, there were only two IBR files, one created during the initial calibration and one for the rest of the ride. It difficult to accurate split the IBR file so that it would match with the Garmin data file.

I supposed i could wait 20 minutes for the PowerPod to go to sleep but is there an easier way?

Also related to my question above, how do you end a ride in the PowerPod if you are doing a out-and-back ride for calibration purpose? For now, i had to manually split a file in Isaac and get rid of the last portion because it was recorded by PowerPod after the out-and-back ride.

That's one way to do it.

Or, finish your o&b ride then wait 20 minutes for PP to reset itself.

Right now, to wake PowerPod up, you press the button and the LED turns green. How about adding a feature to turn off (and save/close the current ride file) PowerPod by pressing the same button again and perhaps have the LED turn red?

If someone was riding and clicked the button, that might turn the unit off.

What can I do when I have to switch bikes during the time the PP is switched on? Can I change somehow (without PC) the active profile or does the PP notice that with the sensor IDs?

If i have to guess, you will have to wait 20 minutes for PP to go to sleep.

I personally think it very unlikely for someone to press the button while they are riding. If you are concerned about that scenario, how about updating the PP firmware so that a double-press of the button turns the unit off?

I found a way to switch bikes while the PP is active.
Holding button for 4 seconds starting pairing process and works to switch sensors. Also after the ride the other profile is active.
It seems that if calibration has been done already, new pairing does only switch sensors but does not trigger new calibration.

Whether a calibration of new position of PP is done on other bike I could not realize. Maybe John can comment.

Very clever! If you do a new Scan to switch profiles, and the scan finds the sensor ID of one of your other bikes that has already been calibrated, you will indeed switch profiles, and no calibration ride will be required.

Would doing a pair on the same bike after an out and back create a new ibr file. Basically re-pairing it to the same sensors, or won't it re-pair cause they are already paired.

This might be a work around, to end out and back ride and save ibr file. Then at least you don't have to wait for 20 min before you start riding again. 20 min is a long time sitting next to the road. Haha

Hi John.

Went out for my out and back ride today. Did 12 min out and back then stopped.

I held the PP button in for 4 sec and green light flashed then went solid to show that it had paired.

Continued ride. I did not reset the garmin as it shouldn't make a difference as it only receives data from PP

AFter ride I downloaded from PP and unfortunately it only saved one ibr file.

So this method does not create new file for out and back.

I'll have to split the file in Isaac. Luckily it shows up well as cadence, power etc drops to zero.

But if you only want to do out and back on separate file you'll have to wait the 20 min for PP to shutdown.

Or velocomp will have to add a mod in firmware update. Double press to switch off would work well, with light flashing red quickly in succession. Just an idea.
