Best DFPM to use with Newton.

Post by pmellen »

Hi All,

I wanted to find out which DFPM is best to use with the Newton, with the following 2 use cases;
1. To calibrate, make consistent and further increase accuracy the Newton configuration.
2. To enable "real time" CdA and also evaluate kit and bike position to increase aero efficiency.

Of course there are some well know "deficiencies" in existing technologies, for example; Stages power meter is left leg only and does not record power when cadence is under 30 RPM. So Stages may be of limited use with the above "use cases".

However, the Powertap hub based DFPM seems appropriate, DC Rainmaker says "Would I buy it: Absolutely, and in fact, it’s one of the units that I’ve bought myself as a workhorse in my power meter testing." ( quote taken from http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2015/10/buye ... ition.html ), however, one would have to take into account drive train losses.

What is the best DFPM for the 2 use cases?

Many thanks.

PowerTap is a solid choice. Any other DFPM that measures the output of both legs will also do a good job for both 1) and 2)
