Newton won't charge

I have a Newton that won't charge. As soon as I unplug the display turns off and it is unusable, can't wake it up.
When plugged the % charge never gets above 3%, check it a few minutes later and it says 0.
I've tried updating the firmware, rebooting, but no dice.
Do I need to send it in for servicing?
