Using the ibike provided spd/cad sensor with Garmin 500

Post by andrewlees »

I have the Newton with the GT firmware upgrade so that my Garmin can get the power numbers. To my pleasant surprise, it also gets the rpms! I use GPS for speed and distance on the Garmin. I recently tried using the ibike provided speed/cadence sensor with the Garmin. The Garmin recognizes the sensor, and wireless id matches the one that shows in Isaac, but for some reason the speed and cadence measurements get switched so that my Garmin shows I'm pedalling at 30rpm at 105km/h while my Newton shows 30km/h and 105rpm (the latter numbers are correct because my legs were turning over pretty quickly). Any ideas why the Garmin switches the data when the sensor is switched "on"?

If your Newton is reading your speed/cadence signal properly, then the problem is with the Garmin. Try re-pairing the Garmin.
