question regarding merging TCX files

I am wondering if when you merge a garmin tcx file into Isaac, does the recording intervals of the two files have to match? What I am curious about is if the Garmin is using smart recording then it will likely be different from the 1 per second or the 1/5sec rate in the Isaac, or Newton.

recommendation is to use 1 second recording

Although, even with that Isaac seems to be trying to match on ride time rather than absolute time
