PowerPod help please and hi

Post by left_and_uphill »

Hi..

I stumbled onto this useful forum.. Hi ..
I searched through a problem i am having on previous posts and tried all of the suggested options when people have reported issues with their Power Pod calibration.
I couldn't find a problem or solution that fitted my scenario though, so i'm hoping on of you kind people can help..

My Powerpod previously worked on the first few outings synced with my Garmin when i first set it up.

However, it's no longer working. I don't recall it just failing or when it stopped, but the wattage is always stuck at 4000 watts. Sometimes it goes back to 0.

I've tried unpairing etc etc.. resetting.. repairing to the cadence and speed sensors (which is does).. it also pairs to the garmin, however never will enter back to calibration mode no matter what I try..
(i've followed all instructions about 50 times to the letter to be sure i'm not missing a step..)

i did try pairing it to another garmin too, also pairing to sensors first etc etc, but exactly the same result.
I've searched google too, but so far am just an unhappy Powerpod user :(

any suggestions would be really great :)

I've read stuff about the powerpod being at a particualr angle... tried readjusting it at different angles .. etc etc...

Please post a .ibr ride file showing the problem.

In the mean time do the following:

1) Make sure you have the latest firmware, using the command "Device/Check Online for FW update"...

2) Reset your active profile, using the command "Device/Setup/Reset Profile-Device"

3) Make sure your PP is mounted within +/- 20 degrees of parallel to the surface beneath of your bike

4) Re-pair your PP to your speed or speed/cadence sensor

5) Do a new 5 minute ride

This should fix things.

Power is restored... whoop...

thank you so much.
resetting the profile via Newton software seemed to do the trick and then repairing powerpod to sensors then to the garmin.. Hopefully not something i need to do on a regular basis..

As long as your PP is properly mounted you should be OK.

arrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhh
ok.. so it's not solved...

after my calibration ride it seemed fine.
went for a ride today and it started working.. after about 5 mins the watts started creeping up.. held at about 500 watts when i know i wasn't applying 500 watts of power!
then it climbed to 4000 watts.. stayed there for a few mins then dropped to 0 watts..
i decided to try re-pairing it while i was out on the ride, but no luck...

it gets worse..... :(
I get home, and think 'lets try all those steps again'...

i connected the powerpod to issac ok. and then did the firmwear update check. it said there was a new version so i said yes to install...

i then got a message box with a error and the light went out.
the power pod will now not turn on and no lights appear....

i know it's charged, but tried connecting to a power source, but no lights....
rebooted laptop and reconnected.. no lights....

held button down for 10 secs ... no lights....

what a nightmare.. i thought these just worked out of the box :(...
close to giving up and spending my money on another powertap hub which always worked in the past...

how do i get it to turn back on or connect? i bought this on the internet from ibikesport and don't really want to go through hassle of weeks of sending it away.. waiting and waiting ... grrrrrrrrrrrr....

i work in IT and used to complex software, but this takes the biscuit! haha..
someone help if possible and save me from pulling my hair out..

It sounds like your PP was "bricked" during the FW update.
