Cal Ride and Coast Downs

Post by faheyb »

I finally managed to complete a set of Calibration rides, 2 in the Drops and 2 on the Hoods. The Calib rides are reasonably similar and not too dissimilar from my iAero on the same bike. I have downloaded the Calib rides and coastdowns as both ibr and csv files, but I'm struggling to work out how to analyse the coast downs.
Is there access to the Issac Software Instructions re dealing with the coast downs and ensuring I achieve the best profile(s) from this work.

Thanks in advance.

WARNING: 2 coast downs are insufficient, and only the most recent coast down "sticks". So, it is highly likely your Newton is calibrated more poorly now than it was prior to doing ANY coast downs.

If you have done the correct sequence, (Calibration Ride, followed immediately by coast downs), then in Isaac use the feature Setup/Download Coast Downs and Calibration Ride". This will extract your raw data from the Newton. If you've done two separate Cal Rides, then there will be two files.

Page 46-50 of the iBike Software Manual (available from the Help menu in Isaac) will tell you how to do the analysis.

Though Cal Ride/coast downs do work, but generally this is tricky stuff, and yields only marginal improvements.

John, I don't quite understand. I completed 4 calibration rides, 2 in the drops and 2 on the hoods, and then ran a serries od 10 coastdowns in both positions, a total of 20.
My issue was in getting the data into the software for analysis. There is not access to Setup/Download Coastdowns in my Isaac screens (there was with the previous GENIII), and after much messing around I resorted to "Download ride data, which listed all of my calibration rides and 20 coastdowns in the Newton. As there was not apparent access to any "Download Coastdowns and Calibration rides, the only choice appeared to be to download a calibration ride, but this actually downloades all as both ibr and csv files AND totally removed all from the Newton (I did not erase)
Is there an issue with my Isaac download, with no access to "download coastdowns and calibration ride.

Thanks

To analyse your coast-downs go to the Device Menu then Setup and you'll see the Download Coast-Downs and Calibration Ride option

Keep this in mind when you are doing coastdown analysis....

this new newton fw 2.14 easily installed on my townbike.
Isaac 1.0.8 did a quick setup.
wind/tilt calibration,
1st calibration ride <maybe finished a little short of start.>
Back at Isaac, the ride data looked fine.

Next day, with ambition to get calibration with coast downs....not so successfull.
Previous data NOT erased.
tires at pressure, circumfrence measured via a 10 revolution ride.
wind, tilt calibrated.
select Calibration ride, which is 1 mile out, stop and bac at screen signal, keeping 10mph, again finishes slightly short of the startpoint.
select coast downs - 8 done on a 1/4 mile average ashalt <its stating to rain>.
Road profile is a gradual dip right in the middle so its easy to get to speed and is slightly uphill for the coast-downs.

Dry at home connected to Isaac: Device/Setup/Download Calibratioon ride and Coast-downs...
the cursor as circle revolves a bit --- returns to the + crosshair
NO ANALYSIS SCREEN
NO ERROR MESSAGE
just returned active to the main screen ???????

tryed iBike 6.02 on the laptop: analyses worked [¿result accuracy unkown?]
upgrade laptop to Isaac 1.0.8 ; same as on the original desktop ->no analysis screen at all- just returned to main screen.
tried Tools/Repair/ Repair Ride for Bad Tilt Cal .... suff... closing with a warning box that tilt calibration should be redone before the next ride.

What should I do to get Isaac to analyze the calibration ride and associate coast-downs and let me know?

OK, these are the same instructions from which I made a check list and followed.
Not erasing data before the CalRide/Coast-downs is OK.
The roads were straight without hills.
Wind calm. no changes during cal.
Weather heavy overcast, no change during ride, showers during the very last coast-down.

My computers run Win7..
To analze the calride and coasts:
In Issac, I selected:
Device
Setup
Download Coast-Downs & Calibration Ride...

The "dash" warning box comes up, OK selected
Cursor becomes a twirling circle. blips a couple of times,
DOES NOT BRING UP THE "Process Calibration Ride" SCREEN !!!!!!!!!!
only returns to "Isaac for windows" main screen showing the graphics for the current ride.

NOT EVEN A HINT OF THE "Process Calibration Ride" SCREEN... NEVER.

the instructions do not explain this.
Would you please try an explaination before I put the effort into repeating the process. I cannot see anything I can do differently.

There were no problems (ever) with the 2008 iBike Pro which is sent in in exchange for the Newton.

Just came back from what should be a good calibration ride withouT coast-downs.
deleted all data from Newton
Device/Setup Device/<followed wizard prompts>
etc etc etc

AGAIN, NO CALIBRATION RIDE ANALSIS WINDOW

where "download ride data" works fine.

... unistalled Isaac and USB driver
... reinstalled fresh download Isaac and USB driver

AGAIN, NO CALIBRATION RIDE ANALSIS WINDOW

I found a bug that is causing this problem. It will be fixed in the next build. Sorry for the inconvenience.

If you need to download coast-downs before I can get the next build out in a couple of days, it would be fine do downgrade to Isaac 1.0.7. You can download coast-downs fine in 1.0.7. Here is how:

Mac:
1. Download and install Isaac 1.0.7 for Mac.

Windows:
1. Go to Control Panel and uninstall Isaac for Windows 1.0.8.
2. Download and install Isaac 1.0.7 for Windows.

Once Isaac 1.0.9 is available, it will have the fix so please upgrade to it.

Thanks Travis
Isaac 1.0.9 is downloaded and working.
Off I go for a Calibration ride and coast downs.

This Newton system is rather nice to use.

Calibration ride with 11 coastdowns gives clean results.
Fitness Test is next.
