Screen Freezes

The screen on my iAero has frozen several times in the past few days, while on rides and while in the apartment. On my ride, I was trying to access the coast down screen to check the aero calibration by coasting, but it froze on the User screen. I rode for another 5 minutes with it frozen trying to fix it, before stopping and opening and closing the battery case to shut it off manually and start it again. After that I had no problems for the remaining 3 hours of the ride. In the house it just freezes and none of the buttons I press respond, this also resulted in the unit not turning off and draining a new battery.
My question is, is this a problem of low battery and it freezes when the voltage gets low, but then reaches a functional equilibrium where it works? How can I get it to stop freezing like that? I am in the process of building an external power supply and hoping this fixes, but any other ideas would be helpful.
