Installing Isaac with Mac High Sierra

Post by Velocomp »

We've had a few customers report problems installing Isaac on Mac High Sierra.

Apple keeps making security an ever-more difficult problem to manage, even when the apps are safe.

Here's what to do if you are having problems (NOTE: IF ISAAC IS WORKING ON YOUR MAC, THEN THERE'S NO NEED TO DO THESE STEPS!!!):

1) Download the NI Visa driver, available here:

http://www.ibikesports.com/iBike_update ... me_mac.zip

2) Double click on the NIVisaRuntime_mac.zip file to decompress it

3) Double-click on the "NI-VISA-Runtime-5.4.0.dmg file. You will get a window that looks like this:

4) IMPORTANT: Now, hold the control key on your keyboard, click on the "nivisaruntimei.mpkg icon, then choose "open":

5) You will get a warning message; select "Open"

6) Follow the screens to install. If you get this message, click "Not Now"

7) The NI Visa drivers will install, and you will be asked to restart your computer. Restart your computer:

8) Next, install the Si Labs drivers, available here:

http://www.ibikesports.com/iBike_update ... SB_mac.zip

9) Repeat steps 2-7, but with the Si Labs drivers, using the same control/click/open/restart procedure described above

10) Finally, Install Isaac with the control/click/open procedure

We are sorry this is so cumbersome, but at the end of the day it is Apple, not us, who decides how easy or difficult it is to make software installation.

I have been having trouble with Isaac crashing at the very last phase of it opening. It transitions through the loading phase and crashed as the end of the starting phase. I have following these instructions and successfully loaded both NI Visa driver as well as the Si Lab drivers. I then follow the instructions for downloading Isaac from the link on the PowerPod website. I have deleted and reloaded Isaac several times but without success. I am running macOS High Sierra Version 10.13.1.

In reading other forum posts there have been some comments about issues with hidden files. I don't know if that might be the source of my problem or not.

Thanks for any insights you might be able to provide.

I was able to get Isaac running on High Sierra 10.13.1 by following these instructions to manually install the drivers. I too was having trouble with Isaac crashing but got past it with the manual install.

Note, I had issues getting the drivers manually installed, at one point, on the second driver install, the computer crashed and re-booted all on its own but it eventually worked. Apple sure hasn't made this easy...

Has there been a solution to this problem? I just installed as per the instructions above. But then Isaac crashes upon start-up, like these other folks have said.
