Bad wind / wattage ~ 45 min into ride

Post by timno »

I went out on a ride ~ 2 weeks ago (08_04_2011 ride file attached) and about 45 min into the ride my wattage went to 0 and, except for when I would stomp on the pedals, would remain at 0. I initially thought the wind sensor was blocked but that was not the case. Over the past two weeks, I've been having the same problem, for the first 30-45 min the power levels were reading about right and then would decrease to 0 for the remainder of the ride except for hills/stomping on the pedals (a couple other ride files attached for reference: 08_08_2011 and 08_11_2011). At the start of every ride, I would religiously do a tilt and cal wind. I've not been able to fix the problem on my own and am now coming to you for help. As an fyi iBike (gen III) is ~ 2.5 years old.

I am having similar problems. My wind readout is always low. It doesn't matter if I am in a headwind or a tailwind, it is always very low resulting in very low wattage numbers.

@timno

Your wind went massively negative at a point in the ride. It's almost as if you were in trainer mode, but you weren't.

For the 39 mile ride, wind went completely negative at 13 miles.
For the 18 mile ride, wind went completely negative at 3 miles.
For the 59 mile ride, wind went completely negative at 13 miles.

Can you describe these rides? This is very strange indeed.

@ferg
Your windscaling is completely negative for the entire ride. Since this may have been a ride in one direction, you need to look at your calride. Was that done in good conditions?

Is it possible there is a battery issue involved here? Or at least some voltage drop that happens which may be affecting the data.

Just a stab in the dark -

Lay off the baked beans before the ride. :P
Sorry - someone had to say it :)
