I assume it is pretty easy to take the mount off if you don't want to use it.

But if you remount it I am guessing one would need to do another calibration ride?

I assume you don't if you are just replacing the recharged battery...

No need to do a calibration ride assuming you're not making any changes. You can remove it and re-install at will.
