Combined Speed/Cadence sensor bad AGAIN!

I'm on my 3rd combined speed/cadence sensor! The latest one was purchased in March 2013. It's the cadence that fails each time! I recently rode a tour from San Francisco to L.A. From the first day of the tour, I could not get Cadence to work. Very disappointing! It worked at home before I shipped my bike to CA. And the bike shipped just fine!! It is not from the shipping.
By the way, I use this sensor for a Newton.
Is it the wire that goes to the sensor? Is it the fact that this wire is always bent when installed per instructions? Is there a fix that I don't know of? I'm not spending another 50 bucks for another sensor! I'm about ready to give up on iBike after starting with a Gen 1! There are just too many idiosyncrasies with this computer...
