I think he wants to calculate the required power outputs BEFORE the ride.
I've seen the equation for PNorm before--possibly in Coggan and Allan's book.

Re: Newbie Calibration Question
Have you chosen which crr figure to use? (There's a choice in that box--and until you choose which one, the info. stays greyed out, I think. It's been a day or two since I've done a profile).

Under edit trainer settings in the device menu there is a setting to choose roller options: it includes choices for Kreitler and e-motion.

Re: FTP zones vs. CP zones
Not quite. It would be more accurate to equate CP60 with FTP . . . But triathletes training for Ironman distances, mtb'ers training for marathon events, and long-haul cyclists could conceivably be more interested in improving CP120 . . . Conversely, Boyd has mentioned a few times that elite racing i...

Re: Water or Low Battery?
Actually, I'm relaying info. Hopefully Boyd will respond, since he's the one who mentioned that his wind-scaling appeared to have changed after a rainy ride. I'm not sure if it actually affected performance of the unit--just that the wind-scaling changed.

Re: Calibration Profiles
This is a really good set of questions. I have a request of sorts to the velocomp folks to add on to it, and then a response to one part of your post: Request: I think it's time for a thorough scrubbing of the manuals to reflect what's going on with fw4. There's much confusion about the best way to ...

Re: Water or Low Battery?
It's moisture in the wind port. Similar occurrence happened during a race on a super foggy morning in March.
When everything gets nice and dry, you'll probably want to do another cal ride, since the wind-scaling might not change.

Re: Calibration Advice (issues with drafting numbers)
Yes, you could remove the coast-downs you don't want, then let the software average the remaining 4.
My guess--and . . . it's only a guess . . . is that that with an aero number around 753, the 1.9 wind scaling will deliver usable results.

Re: Calibration Advice (issues with drafting numbers)
I don't know why, but something is wrong with the wind sensor. The mount is super-solid on your bars right? Those 6 coast-downs today are really all over the place. I did a profile for my time-trial bike a while ago with bad wind (too much cross-wind and gusty), and it came back with a 1.7 or so win...

Re: Calibration Advice (issues with drafting numbers)
I predict that when Boyd and the others check this out, they will say that the wind scaling is your culprit. That 2.x number is at the super-high end of workable, and it would cause your drafting numbers to skew weird. The solution would be to make sure you're getting good airflow around your Ibike ...

do a separate profile for each separate set-up that you use.
I train on a set of 32-hole box section tubulars--that's one profile;
race on a set of zipp 808 tubulars--that's another profile;
the time trial bike gets its own profile . . .

That's close to my set-up on my road and tt bikes: cadence sensor hanging down, speed sensor mounted up fairly close to the quick-release. Had no problems with either bike.

Error code 6004 . . .
Frustrated, I am. It has been difficult, or impossible to download EVERY ride of over 60 miles I've done since up-grading to fw4. While it is sometimes possible to get the ride downloaded, it involves clicking past a screen that mentions this undefined error code 6004--and then as often as not there...

Re: Calibration Procedure Check
Unless you weigh 110 pounds or less, the aero and cda numbers are still way off. (For reference, my cda on my time trial bike, with zipp 808s and an aero helmet, is around .229 and I'm 5'9" and 154 pounds). That wind scaling number is on the low side too. Part of the problem might be that you h...

Unless you are around 4'3" and 50lbs . . . there's no way those numbers are right.
Now, as for what's making them so wrong, it will probably take the velocomp folks to inspect the files to give you guidance.
What is the wind scaling number reading in advanced settings of the profiles?

Sorry to be a pest, but again, that is not my experience. Specifically, I re-set the crr in the racer menu from 48 to 58. Fernando-- I tried the process you described because the crr that fits the roads I ride on most of the time is not the crr of the roads where I do coast-downs. the crr is an obvious target: .038 is very low.
In tools, if you play with the tweak crr function, see what happens if you change that to a more realistic .055 or .06 . . .

Part of the problem, (assuming I understood your post correctly): every coast-down should occur in the same direction, not alternating directions.

What weight did you enter into the screen for the fitness test? The weight you entered for the ibike profile (your weight + bike) or your body weight? You want your body weight for the fitness test--if you entered 200lbs wrongly, the unit will figure based on the 200, even though the 175 was right--...

As to the bad coast-down problem, I'd defer to the Velocomp guys--it might be necessary to diagnose the file to see what's going on.
