Re: PP wind speed
Your ride file is divided into two parts: start of file to mile 25.2, where your speed sensor was working very poorly, and afterwards, where it worked perfectly. What happened? At mile 25.2 your PowerPod position changed, and for the next 8 minutes readings were crazy, then settled down. After mile ...

Re: Calibration issue
Hmm... Press-hold the PP button for about 10 seconds, until it goes out and then starts flashing. This does a Hard Reset of the PowerPod. Make sure your Garmin settings are correct. You need to display total power (they have a lot of confusing settings on the 1000), and confirm that PP is paired to ...

Re: Calibration issue
Are you absolutely sure you have paired your PowerPod to your Garmin? You have to do the Garmin pairing AFTER you've paired PowerPod to your speed/cadence sensor. Spin your bike wheel to wake up the sensor. Click the PP button. Please report its color and also whether or not it flashes. If the PP is...

Re: Question Wind scaling values
Your short ride of 4-5 km will be perfect.
The idea is to ride long enough to get some decent data, but not so long that wind conditions might change.

Re: Force PowerPod to start a new IBR file?
Would doing a pair on the same bike after an out and back create a new ibr file. Basically re-pairing it to the same sensors, or won't it re-pair cause they are already paired. This might be a work around, to end out and back ride and save ibr file. Then at least you don't have to wait for 20 min b...

Re: two rides in same day confuse Tracker overlay
Hmm...do the following: 1) Download again your AM ride. 2) You should see a pop-up window appear asking you if you want to override the start time. This window appears because there is not a Tracker file for it, but Isaac finds your PM Tracker data might be a fit 3) Do not override the ride time. Af...

Re: dynamic smoothing on powerpod
You're basically running with 6 second averaging (sum of Joule and PowerPod). This will result in stable numbers.
If you set your Joule to 1 second and PP to Dynamic Smoothing, you should get that stability, plus fast response in surges.

Re: Erratic power data
This looks MUCH better. Since you have an out-and-back, you can use the command "Analyze/Check Calibration..." to dial-in your profile. Also, you have a TT bike, so I adjusted the CdA to about 0.28 I've attached correct profile and ride file. Import the profile using the Edit/Edit Profiles...

Re: Erratic power data
Peter has been very helpful with some images of these aero bars. Judging from their appearance, they have (sigh) made a non-standard, very skinny attachment point to the main handlebars. Our TT mount is designed for standard 24mm aero bars. Also, because of the very skinny size of the aero bars, the...

Re: Erratic power data
I suspect our TT mount will work with these aero bars, but it is going to be really important to attach the TT mount as close as possible to the point where the aerobars attach to the handlebar and stem. This is the point of minimum flex of the handlebars. When PowerPod is attached far away from the...

Re: Erratic power data
hi Gordon Just a word of warning The TT mount that Velocomp make won't fit on those planet X tri Bar extensions because of the reduced diameter of the extension where they fit into the base bar. I would have thought your best option would be to use the standard PowerPod mount on the base bar, it lo...

Re: How to Redo Cal ride or re-enter Cal ride file info?
I looked at your ride files. 1) Both bikes show intermittent cadence readings. Make sure you position your cadence sensor and magnet so they pass within 1-2 coin widths of each other 2) Profile 1 appears to be normal and May 8 ride file is normal. 3) Rain bike profile is within bounds. On which prof...

Well, the truth is that I don't know how to do this one myself!
Travis, our software guru, invented this. I suppose that if you get the starting baro pressure correct then elevation will correct itself appropriately.

Re: How to correct for atmospheric pressure
In Isaac, go to "Analyze/Analyze Newton Settings..."
There, you can adjust starting elevation to the correct number. Though elevation is always the same, the barometric pressure associated with it is dependent on weather.

Re: Erratic power data
I see at least two problems: 1) PP is positioned out at the end of the aero bars, where vibration effects are amplified 2) It looks like PP is attached to the aero bars with a plastic mount, further adding to vibration You need a very stiff TT mount, such as the one we make. Also, the TT mount needs...

Re: Difference between Isaac and Garmin
PowerPod sends its power data once per second. This is what is reported in the ride file. The peak power shown by Isaac is the highest average power over any five second period. Power numbers shown for a shorter period of time are meaningless. I don't know what Garmin shows but my suspicion is that ...

The Newton 6 upgrade will be the most cost effective. You'll get current firmware (you are using the original FW) and you'll also get an upgraded case design, which is better at "reading" wind.

I can't comment on that because I do not know the circumstances.
You do have a very old Newton, one of the very first ones manufactured. Age itself is not a factor (the sensors don't get old) but like everything electronic, the newer it is, the better it is.

This data looks great and there is no evidence of dropouts. Good job!
Certainly, you can periodically do an out-and-back ride to check calibration, but unless you see a major change I would leave things alone. Consistency is much more important than absolute accuracy.

It sounds like your Cateye sensor is misbehaving. Make sure the speed sensor/magnet are properly positioned. If that doesn't work then the iBike sensor will definitely do the job.
