Bug on 1-way ride

iBike software has asked, for several versions now, "Did this ride finish where it started?" I understand this is used to help with barometric pressure drift during the ride - assuring that elevation matches at the end to what it reads at the start. My problem comes when I answer "no&...

is temperature available?

I'm using the iBIke 5 and note a few changes in the displays. I used to record the ride temperature from the ride summary data - as read by the iBike. I can get the data elsewhere, but is there a place in iBike 5 for Windows where temperature is displayed?

Re: iBike needs wind cal during ride?

John noticed this: "Your wind scaling factor is about 1.0 in your profile; based on your ride data it probably needs to be around 2.5. I believe your iBike is mounted on your handlebars; this WSF is consistent with this location." When he says this WSF he means the 2.5. Was your prior pro...

Re: iBike needs wind cal during ride?

It's easy to say the wind scaling off. Why have I been able to use this calibration for ten months, and *now* the wind scaling goes *noticeably* off within a week? I've done about 15 cals over three years and gen i, gen ii, and gen iii iBike Pro's. I get confidence from seeing the numbers fall *clos...

Re: iBike needs wind cal during ride?

I've seen this problem in the last three or four days with my Gen iii. My un-compensated offset is a 20 to 30 mph headwind for a out-and-back ride. Software on the computer zeros the mean wind speed, but I am left with little faith in the result and no faith in power readings while on the road. What...

hmm... scan even on a wired mount. I don't think I'd tried that. I actually have saved profiles in the PC software for each. I could do another cal ride for the second profile... but is there a way to load the profile from the PC? I presume it goes into whichever profile is "current" on th...

Wired & wireless

Can I use a Gen iii unit on two bikes - one with a wired connection and the other with a wireless? How do I load both profiles into the unit and know that I've done so? I can load the wired profile in and ride - fine... But if I load the wireless profile, I can't get the unit to recognize inputs fro...

Re: iBike temperature readings - they are HIGH

I was under the impression that the thermometer was needed for the barometric altimeter. The readings of the altimeter change with temperature. The proper correction is based on the "real" temperature inside the case of the iBike. Sure, it's not the air temperature you're feeling as you ri...

Two profiles

I just got a new bike <very big grin> and bought a wireless mount for my Gen III iBike. The other bike still has a wired mount. One of the recent updates mentioned something about changing profiles automatically when connecting to a wired vs wireless mount. I've tried to set it up to do that, settin...

Re: new to wireless

I had to reset the iBike for other reasons - I'd messed up profiles between the wired mount and wireless on two different bikes. Today's ride (same route, same hills) with the wireless worked OK all the way, even when standing with the iBike HRM. In the meantime, it's possible that the cadence senso...

Re: new to wireless

I've got a couple more rides, now. I can ride with my wristwatch HRM in place of the iBike HRM and the iBike power readings are fine, whether I'm standing over the unit or whatever. I only get the dropouts on the iBike power reading when I'm using the iBike HRM strap. This may not absolve position a...

Re: new to wireless

Hmm. I was cranking over 400 Watts at about 60 to 75 rpm at the time the reading cut out. Blocking line-of-sight? Well, it's a stem mount, so it's not really line-of-sight when I'm sitting, either. Low batteries? It's newly installed from the box. That's possible, but it would not be my first though...

new to wireless

I splurged on a new bike and got a wireless mount for my existing Gen III iBike. Went through calibration rides and headed out for my first ride. The disturbing thing is that cadence went to zero every time I was standing on a hill. My background in RF engineering notes that the HR sensor is only 6 ...

The last conversations I find about iBike on Linux come from April? Has anyone worked any further on getting iBike to run or save the files on Linux?

Much chagrin! I probably could make the SI Labs go to a higher COM port and make it all work. Something clicked about the message from my Palm hotsync software... Sure enough, Palm was finding the COM3 and capturing it. iBike software couldn't access that port because Palm wanted to use it for hotsy...

More tales of driver woe. I remove the physical Bluetooth dongle. I uninstall and re-install the USB-to-UART driver. iBike 3.0.6 sees the COM3 port and communicates with my older unit (a Gen ii). I think I'm happy. Then I unplug stuff, plug it back in, and the COM port can't be found. It's not on th...

Re: COM port issue...

Installing the SW on another computer, I find that there's a "virtual com port" driver from Silicon Labs. I run down the list to un-install that , then re-install, and the "bah-ding" sound of a successful USB is sounded. Much better than the chattering of a failed USB connect. Bu...

There's something remaining behind when I un-install the iBike software. Re: Downhill Power

Any time I'm pedaling over ~30 mph, the power reading is balderdash. My unit regularly reads 600W or more when I know I'm only putting out 100. Maybe there's a little from my position, but I've got months of data showing this consistently every time I descend.

Re: Display failure?

I've seen this effect when I rode in the rain. Since the display slowly cleared up over the following 4-5 days, I suspect I simply sweated enough to get some moisture inside the unit. I can't say I'm looking forward to the effects of salt-water on the internal circuitry.

Re: High power readings on descents

I learned to reset tilt and wind just before calibration one or two cal cycles ago - when it was cold and the readings drifted pretty badly. I have high power readings from every calibration over the past year. My opinion is that the drag formula doesn't account for varying laminar and turbulent flo...

Display failure?

I've got a Gen iii iPro that's about six months old. The display is getting very sick. The seven-segment LCD sometimes doesn't turn off when it's supposed to be off, and some segments are not fully ON. It's quite hard to read. I've seen this in other devices for low battery, so I replaced the batter...

Re: High power readings on descents

Hmm... I don't know if I posted this or hit the wrong button... I always get absurd power readings on a descent. It reads 500-1000 W when my subjective assessment is 100-200 W. I don't think it kicks in magically at one speed, but above 30-35 mph, the readings are obviously bogus. It's been that way...

I don't get rained on much in Tucson, but it seems to take more than 2 days for the unit to dry out. My most recent event... Re: Temperature and tilt

I've moved to a Gen III, so this issue isn't so prevalent anymore. Yep, it's tilt and it's temperature. It's not a loose mount. I know it's tilt because it shows up in percent grade - the display I leave on when climbing. I know it's temperature from many, many rides through the summer and fall. The...

Re: Failed to display power?

Thanks for the details. I'm going to speculate on some other things that may have been *different* in my setup. One or more of these may have generated the 0 in the weight. First, I installed the iBike 3 software on the Windows PC before I got the Gen III unit. I've got a handful of rides with the G...
