Re: ibike on e-motion rollers
I cannot comment on the e-motions per se, but I will say the resistance varies considerably with ambient tempreature. For example, I get around 100 watts more according to the curve compared to winter for the same speed, weight, pressure. Perhaps it's just my rollers but I would not be surprised if ...

Re: Fit Train intervals
Edit your current profile in the software and check if the FTP is set correctly in the basic tab.
I found the ranges in the built in intervals did not match what Boyd had in the spreadsheet for level 7, but that was a while ago and may have been fixed.

Re: Fit test off
It's likely the difference is the post processing in the iBike software. The reality is the difference between them is quite small.
Use 255 watts as your FTP (95% of your 20min result) benchmark for intervals.

Good to know John. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.
I do like what you've done and would like to see the dash functionality on a stand alone device.

I have not got an iPhone or iTouch. I have no need for or interest in either. SO, the question is, is there any future development thats not Apple-related?

Re: Maximum Power Level
If you want to know your maximum power at 5 seconds, 1 min, 5 min etc, you should test yourself along the same lines as the 20 min fitness test. As your threshold power increases your 5 min power should go up to a certain degree. Ideally you should do specific intervals to raise your short period po...

Re: Coast Downs and Stuff...
I'd say you should redo your calibration if you change your wheels, stem (particularly if the unit is stem mounted) or saddle height. As far as weight goes, dropping 3 kgs is most likely to affect the Crr readings so it would be worth doing the calibration for that. Try another calibration and compa...

Re: What's coming next?
I think Morocco Mole has indentified the main items but perhaps they will change the way wind is measured. Instead of one wind port on the unit, maybe there will be multiple positioned on the bike or unit to measure cross-wind better. I see Velocomp trying to position the iBike as the unit of choice...

Re: Fitness Test Procedure
No I didn't. I just went straight into the test after riding to the location. Just to be clear, I ride to the start of the test, do a trip reset and then go into settings, scroll to the test and start it? In the past, I've done a wind offset and tilt calibration before riding to the start of the tes...

Fitness Test Procedure
Attempted a test yesterday and abandonded it after 5 minutes. I was working hard and not seeing the power numbers I expected, they were about 100 watts too low. Looking at the file post ride I realised the tilt had reset at the start of the ride and it was about to correct itself when I pulled the p...

Re: Coast Downs and Stuff...
My view: I'd ignore the first and second coastdowns. The friction numbers look to be outliers. Perhaps with some more information you'll get some more definitive responses. What tyres and pressures are you running and how would you describe the road surface (smooth tarmac, chip seal, rough chip seal...

Re: Footon Servetto
I was lucky enough to get over the Adelaide for the TDU. Shame to see them without the iBike. The kindest thing I can say about their kit is they stand out. I rode stage 4 (along with thousands of others), 164 km. Did it in 5 hours and the pros did it in 3.5. That kind of puts things in perspective.

Re: Increasing FTP
The Hour of Power is a pretty good session for FTP improvement (I think it is in the book you mentioned). Over the hour you repeat sets of 3 mins at around 85-90% FTP then a 15-20 seconds surge over 120%. What I like is it simulates the frequent accelerations you get in races. It's pretty hard for t...

Re: Determining weekly TSS loads
The training peaks software can graph this for you, cost is about $100 USD. They use a couple of metrics to determine training load; CTL (critical training load) and ATL (acute training load). ATL is the measure of load over a short time frame (2 weeks), and CTL is the cumulative load over 15 days o...

Re: Setup for Cycleops/SportCrafters rollers?
I do not think the values mentioned are correct. I plotted the wattage on the fixedgearfever site in excel and came up with: Full resistance (units set to English) - A = 0.1256 B = 10.682 C = -0.0096 D = 0.0057 No resistance (units set to English) - A = 0.0942 B = 9.3032 C = -0.2322 D = 0.0076 The g...

Are you doing your calibrations on the same bit of road, in the same direction, with similar weather, in the same riding position? Are you weighing yourself, kit and bike each time? Today I got 4.57 watts per kilo. I am 37, 80kg, now with an FTP of 345 watts. I did a month of the level 6 strength intervals as per the sheet CoachBoyd provided. A weeks rest, then a hard ride (Otways classic, a sportif ride over the Great Divide and along the coast, 145km in 4.5hrs) followed by a ...

I was trying to attach my spare wired mount that I never used to my ride to work bike and I lost one of the screws. What size are they and would they be available in most hardware stores?
Otherwise any other suggestions other than buying a new mounting kit (it's $40US to Australia or $57AUD) ?

Re: "Bad Calc" after every calibration ride on IAero GenIII
I had a similar problem and it turned out the tilt meter was the problem. I noticed when riding around that the tilt being reported was about 3.5% over what I was expecting even though I zeroed the tilt meter. Perhaps you could test the tilt?
Velocomp sorted me out with a replacement.
Good luck

Re: Wacky Tilt Readings
I can rule out cold weather. It is summer here in Melbourne. It was mid 20'sC (77degF) during the calibrations, and just for information, the next few days will be low 40's (106degF). It's the kind of heat that dries out your eyeballs and I think by the weekend I will be wishing I was someplace wher...
