Re: How to load firmware and firmware keys with Isaac

My Mac is back up and running after a reinstall of the operating system. Surprisingly easy. (For any others who have this problem in future, note that Catalina OS X does not have “safe mode” like older versions of the Mac OS. What to do if your mac hangs when installing the first file in the sequenc...

Re: How to load firmware and firmware keys with Isaac

I tried following the instructions to install the new Mac version on my 2018 MacBook Pro 13” version running the latest version of Catalina. When I tried to restart my Mac to complete the installation, it got to the startup screen loading the OS, but when the progress indicator gets fully loaded to ...

Technically, no. Power meters do not measure watts. They measure strain and convert it to watts. It's just that the conversion formulae are a lot simpler than those the PowerPod uses.

Re: Struggling with the PowerPod

I had problems with water, then sealant from a tubeless tire puncture, getting into my PowerPod. Solution: Move the PowerPod out of the spray trajectory. I've simply mounted my K-Edge on the left side of my handlebars adjacent to the stem. This moves the PowerPod out of the water stream coming off t...

Tubeless Tires and PowerPod

If you're using tubeless tires with sealer, I recommend mounting your PowerPod off centre to prevent a front tire puncture from spraying sealer all over your PowerPod. I've been running tubeless for 2+ years. The first 2 years combined moments of bliss (hit glass or metal bits, punctured tire, but i...

Re: PowerStroke stopped working after latest update

Got my PP back after sending it in for repairs. I'm very impressed with the support you and your team provide for this product. Thank you! I have attached my first post-calibration ride file. Can you please check it to be sure the calibration is right? I just noted my HR monitor did not pair up. I'l...

Re: PowerStroke stopped working after latest update

Positioning the PP in the same place at the start of each ride has been a major pain. I've used the original mount, another Go-Pro mount, and the K-edge. None of them has a positive stop at the end of its rotation on the bolt. If you press a bit harder, you can move it a bit more. And despite my shi...

Re: PowerStroke stopped working after latest update

Still having a few questions about accuracy. Power fluctuations show up at two places in the first ride file - at the 02:35 mark there's a power surge far about my maximum, and going downhill. Then again at 39:40 to 40:30 there's a peak for about a minute that I thought was out of proportion to peda...

Re: Using PowerPod with Xert

Update on using Xert with my PowerPod. First, the need to trim power spikes from the start of some rides continues. I put shims into my K-Edge Garmin/PowerPod over/under mount to reduce the potential for misalignment. It's very tight now, very little potential for changing the tilt of the PowerPod i...

Re: PowerStroke stopped working after latest update

Thanks for your help, John. I think it's working properly now. Unreasonable power fluctuations have stopped, and PowerStroke is working again. It's my fault - I didn't remember that the sensors must be added to the profile and cannot be switched without re-pairing. Here's the file. iBike_07_26_2018_...

Re: PowerStroke stopped working after latest update

My cadence sensor reads what appears to be accurately on all my rides. No drop outs, apparently no missing data. Same with my speed sensor and HR sensor. All apparently normal on my Garmin 1000. I did a hard reset as you suggested. Now the problems have increased. The power readings are intermittent...

Re: Using PowerPod with Xert

I have Xert on a trial subscription. Still haven't decided whether or not to subscribe. I cleaned up my Garmin ride files from this year using FitFile Tools to cut sections with inaccurate power readings in the first few minutes. I then reposted all of them to Xert. Now, the FTP readings and Max Pow...

Re: Power Reading Dropouts between Garmin 1000 and PowerPod

Thanks, John. The merge took care of the discrepancies on that ride.

If there's a repeat of the dropouts on subsequent rides I'll post again. Otherwise, it will have been only a transitory glitch.

Power Reading Dropouts between Garmin 1000 and PowerPod

I'm wondering what to do about my latest ride, which had my Garmin 1000 edge showing plenty of zero power readings and occasional disconnection from PowerPod. I started both normally, stopped when I reached the meeting point for a group ride, and my Garmin went to sleep while waiting for others to a...

Re: Using PowerPod with Xert

I'll try this today. It should be fairly easy and painless. I keep my bike in a locked bike room in the basement parkade of our condo. I could simply ride around in the parkade for 2 minutes with the Garmin on, end the ride after two minutes, and discard the Garmin file for the ride. Then out the ga...

Using PowerPod with Xert

I'm trying a subscription to Xert online training app to see if it can improve my training. I've had trouble with my PowerPod positioning as long as I've owned it. From time to time, it doesn't get positioned exactly as it was on the previous ride, and when this happens, the first ~ 8 minutes someti...

Re: Big discrepancy in climbing data VeloTrack, Isaac, Garmin

Thanks, I'll simply ignore the VeloTrack elevation. There's no need for it with Garmin and PowerPod providing readings. I had thought maybe it was a malfunction, but it's not a problem if VeloTrack isn't accurate for elevation. It's great for post-ride checking of power at specific points on a ride.

Big discrepancy in climbing data VeloTrack, Isaac, Garmin

I don't expect identical climbing data from my Garmin Edge 1000 and my PowerPod readout in Isaac, but with the addition of VeloTrack on my iPhone, the discrepancy is too large for me to ignore. On my most recent ride, my Garmin Edge 1000 said I'd climbed 730 meters, while my PowerPod reported it in ...

Re: PowerStroke and New Garmin speed/cadence sensor (no magn

Another question about setting up the powerstroke. I have a Garmin cadence sensor that is self-contained - i.e. no magnet mounted on the chainstay. I never turn the pedals to connect up the cadence sensor to my Garmin 1000. It connects up almost instantly upon starting. My typical routine is to spin...

PowerPod and ShockStop Stem by Redshift

Not a question, but thought I'd post about my experience with Shockstop, a new shock absorbing stem I installed on my bike a few weeks ago. This is not a promotion for Shockstop. I added it here because the stem flexes slightly to reduce vibration and shock, and I was concerned that this flexing mig...

Powerpod Working, but Garmin 1000 Display Drops Out

My Powerpod has been working well recently, but yesterday after I paired it with my Garmin 1000 the Garmin power reading did not display as usual, but dropped out intermittently, often showing zero watts, but sometimes showing the wattage I would expect for this ride. After the ride, I uploaded the ...

Re: PowerPod Suddenly Reads Low Power, Negative Rolling Watt

That worked great - thank you for the suggestion. The calibration ride went as described on your Youtube video - easy to follow. One minor question remaining. The calibration ride set the CdA at 0.379 M**2. This is on a cross bike which has the top of the handlebar at the same elevation as the top o...

PowerPod Suddenly Reads Low Power, Negative Rolling Watts

I've been fine tuning my settings using the Youtube video on how to use the check calibration and settings. Everything seemed about right after my last adjustment - CdA of .420 for my cross bike, Crr of 0.0045 for my Schwalbe Pro One tubeless tires, and my speed/effort is close to the same for out a...

Isaac Seems to Open, But Is Unresponsive Mac Sierra V 10.12

I'm running Isaac 4.1.0 on a MacBook Pro Retina running Mac OS Sierra 10.12.5. Any sense in using GPS Tracker with Garmin 1000?

I have a PowerPod working with my Garmin 1000 Edge. I think the GPS Tracker feature might be somewhat redundant when I have the Garmin Connect view of my routes available. Has anyone used a Garmin 1000 with GPS Tracker? If yes, does it provide any useful information I can't get with the PowerPod and...
