Re: Very windy on the TT bike!

Today was the big day. Perfect testing conditions with no wind. Sadly I updated the firmware last night and my PP just flashed its green light and never joined the party. Tried everything including the full on 10 secondshard reset. Does the firmware update give a hard reset? Isaac suggests another u...

Output CdA data for analysis?

John, when I use my DFPM to estimate CdA, can I output the raw data from the plots? I run multiple laps as replicates and would like to estimate some statistics based on GPS position around the course. Is this possible? Otherwise I guess I can code the raw calculation by importing the CSV file to R/...

Re: Very windy on the TT bike!

Full calibration ride. NOTE power should be off for last bur one lap because I am sat up on the base bar (hence CdA is higher than model expects). My point is that after a little work, with wind calibration etc, you can get some very nice data indeed.

Re: Very windy on the TT bike!

Another race tonight. Moved the PP onto a Garmin out-front mount to try and hide it. Raised the arm rests a bit to clean up the front end for more power (maybe). Calibration of 10 laps to set wind scaling (another windy day!). Then rode the race. Combined the data with my DFPM and here is the output...

Mounting options

John, for mounting, and testing for time trialling, would it be possible to have a mount that is independent of the bars? We often are moving extensions, swapping stems, etc... so this will need the inclination calibration each time. A mount such as a spacer that movers the pod out in front of the s...

Re: Very windy on the TT bike!

Another file for your records - again a windy day on the same circuit. This one was a 10.3 mile TT race (11 laps), so faster than calibration ride. Same Crr and CdA as before. But in this race I was going faster into the double bends which meant that I couldn't stay in position. Ignore the first few...

Re: Very windy on the TT bike!

Thanks John. Very windy, and I would not normally do calibration on such an evening. But I’m very happy with the tool and now feel confident with the software. Like anything, there is a learning curve to get the best results, but having a DFPM has only improved the PP experience. Good luck with the ...

Very windy on the TT bike!

Dragged the TT bike out to a few races recently, then used it for a comparison with my DFPM. It's a single sided Favero Assioma, which has proven faultless so far on multiple bikes, and reproduced data calculated from bikecalculator.com with very good precision on road and TT bikes on closed circuit...

Re: New Boy Questions

I've found most of my troubles have been related to sensors. My PP has never successfully paired with my Wahoo speed sensor, nor my Giant inbuilt speed/cadence sensors. But it des work flawlessly with the magnetless ANT+ only Garmin sensors. I now save the Wahoo for my turbo bike.

Re: Tilt correction out of range after calibration?

Just a follow up for those interested. I rode an O&B calibration ride - basically three laps clockwise followed by three laps anticlockwise. Then I rode 11 laps to warm up and get a feel for target power. Finally I raced at a target power of 310 Watts per lap. Files attached for those that are i...

Re: Tilt correction out of range after calibration?

Thanks. Is that for only for the post ride calibration? The original mount had some tilt due to being on the raised extensions, so I couldn't mount it level. I've the mounted pod absolutely level on the base bars now, so I'll start again with a full calibration ride when the new extensions are deliv...

Tilt correction out of range after calibration?

I thought this would be interesting. On my TT bike, I've moved the PP from the extensions to beneath the base bar (standard mount). The reason being that I want to test new arm positions and swap extensions. I rode 22 laps of my normal off-road calibration course last night and after the initial til...

Yes, lettering horizontal is the neutral position. Any circuit will do. I used a 9.5 mile TT course to calibrate the TT bike. I raced it this morning with very consistent readings.

Re: Powerpod/Garmin combo mount

Tilt should be less than 20 degrees. I calibrated mine with 11 laps of a closed one mile circuit, with the profile extracted from the ride using "check calibration". This changed the aero and wind scaling considerably, even compared with defaults in Isaac.

Re: Still struggling with combo mount settings

Yes, I've done out and back, but found them to be nowhere near as accurate as these rides. Just done a shakedown on my TT bike - 12.5 km up the road and back, and the agreement with bikecalculator.com (for TT position and tubulars) is to within 1% (Without the usual pointy helmet and skinsuit). File...

Re: Still struggling with combo mount settings

Thought I'd post an update. I took the race bike to our closed 1 mile circuit (Hillingdon), rode 11 laps after a race, then when I got home used check calibration from this ride to tweak the profile. Hey presto, the aero and wind scaling are adjusted appropriately and all is good and the Powerpod is...

Re: another failed race...please can someone help once & for

Rusty, I use the combined Garmin/PP mount onto the aerobars, with PP horizontal and rotated back (not forwards) and locked down with the Allen bolt. I never move it from the TT bike (but do swap speed sensor with another PP). I calibrated the bike at Hillingdon on the aerobars on a very windy evenin...

Re: Trainer Mode remains On even after setting it to Off

Use a separate speed sensor on your trainer wheel. I use a BLE Wahoo (for Zwift run on iPad) on my trainer, and separate hub speed sensors for other bikes. Then the profile with the Wahoo just needs to be in Trainer Mode, the other profiles do not.

Re: Still struggling with combo mount settings

Today's updated calibration ride. I'm racing the bike this evening (more drafting), so I though I'd get a calibration in first. I think it is still reading a little high (30W or so), but will try some more gentle rides rather than road races to check this out. It was a little windy today, but the ri...

Re: Still struggling with combo mount settings

And for further reference, here is today's 40 km commute with the PP mounted on the handlebars of my "roadified" cross bike (8 kg, with tubeless 28c high quality clinchers). The power readings here are entirely credible, consistent with my TT bike and RPE, and involved no drafting. I want ...

Re: Still struggling with combo mount settings

Commute to work on the same day attached. No drafting this time. NP is listed as 227 Watts, but this was a very gentle ride. I'll do the same 11 lap TT on my race bike to get something for comparison, as I like the closed circuit as a means of field testing - it's always windy though. Thank you John...

Re: Still struggling with combo mount settings

Just as an update, I ran some time for power calculations to predict my TT time based on reported average power of 289 Watts using bikecalculator. The predicted time was within 1% of my real time, so I am certain the TT calibration is spot on. Of course one can argue that the model uses the same alg...

Still struggling with combo mount settings

Running my two powerpods, the Time Trial unit is providing consistent reproducible data with an FTP of about 290 Watts (for my 67 kg). I've tested this by calibration, a 25 and a 10 TT (attached file with race from about 27 minutes). I'm running a second powerpod, that when mounted on the bars this ...

Re: Mounting options between road bikes

Aside from feeling pretty rubbish, I rode 140km with the PP mounted on combo Garmin mount on the nice bike with just the swapped speed sensor. I made sure I didn't wake the Giant integrated sensor first. Power was consistent with other bikes. I'll use the second sensor and do a calibration for compa...

Re: Callibration ride in WINDY conditions?

Thank you. I'm happy to try a less windy calibration, but wanted to confirm that "out and back" could be riding around a closed circuit. I didn't think to turn around and ride the circuit counter-clockwise! The two units are in reasonable agreement, but I didn't want to swap the unit off t...

Callibration ride in WINDY conditions?

I moved my second PP to my TT bike and conducted a calibration ride. this was a closed circuit (so not out and back), but there was a very strong side wind - such that I couldn't always stay on the aerobars! PP was calibrated and I rode for another few laps that looked reasonable. Today I rode a 25 ...

So when I move the PowerPod to my 406 wheeled recumbent trike, I'll have to set up the profile manually before callibration? Also I presume Crr will be higher on account of the extra wheel ;-)
