Re: Tilt Cal R.I.P.

John You say the auto-correction algorithm work so well, but I often use my Newton on my MTB finding rare watt readings after riding longer than 5 minutes on gravel roads or small tracks. I have two questions I hope you could answer me: 1.I can see the point in removing the tilt cal because of the a...

Re: WindScaling difference - Newton/Isaac 1.0.10, and Isaac 2.01

Just downloaded Isaac 2.10. The wind scaling difference is the same as in ver.2.03 (and 2.01) With my "test ride file" Isaac calculate wind scaling number to 1.027, and Ibike Newton calculate wind scaling number to 1.07. (3.01 firmware and isaac 2.03) With Isaac 1.10.10 I get the wind scal...

Re: Tilt Cal R.I.P.

I have not tried the new firmware. Simplified. Before, we did a 180 degree turn-around tilt cal to get the Newton in level, and a cal ride to get the nose up/down right with the riding tilt factor. On top of this there was this auto-correction algorithm that seems to me "override" both the...

I'm on Easter vacation for a few days now, but my guess is that you can take any Calride file and find the same issue.

WindScaling difference - Newton/Isaac 1.0.10, and Isaac 2.01

There's a Wind scaling difference between Ibike Newton/Isaac 1.0.10, and Isaac 2.01. The cal rides test below was not done in very good wind conditions, but shows Isaac 2.01 get other scaling numbers: Cal ride # ---Newton---Isaac 1.0.10---Isaac 2.01 Cal ride 1. ---0.979-------0.976-----------0.943 C...

Re: Adjust "errors" in slope after a ride

Because with Newton+ Isaac can calculate Cda when coasting down a descent. I wanted to enlighten what an error in slope can do with this measurement.

Adjust "errors" in slope after a ride

I have a survey measured piece of road, around 200m long with a straight 1.1% slope. (new road, I was the project leader) I often ride this slope when out on my bike. When I start my ride iBike shows me 1.1% slope both ways, but then something happens. I guess it is the 5min auto tilt, because when ...

Re: A MTB thread for info, fun, and wacky ideas

It’s winter in my country, so I use my Ibike Newton on a MTB now. I have a rigid carbon fork and have little problem with the iBike on MTB. I got around the MTB Crr/Cda question with the Virtual elevation method. I have a pretty aggressive bike setup and got nearly the same Cda as I have on my racin...

Re: The Why's and How's of Wind Offset

When I do wind cals, first I find a flat place that looks pretty wind free. Then I gently place a small plastic transparent plastic bag over the unit and bracket, making sure it’s closed but not tight around the unit or totally closed, so I don’t make a “new atmosphere” around the unit. This way giv...

The Virtual elevation method to measure Cda and Crr

I am an engineer, working with roads, terrain-modelling and GPS survey. I have access to needed equipment to measure heights and slopes in millimetre accuracy. So, my experience is that the coastdown method is far from accurate enough to measure Cda and Crr. The same conclusion have I made with the ...

Re: Newton tilt calibration, CalRide and auto-tilt adjustment

Tilt cal and Cal Rides are meant to be done one time...period. If your mount isn't rock-solid tight, then it's possible tilt can shift some, or perhaps the screw is not as firmly attached. In any event, the auto-adjust checks things continuously and makes fine-tuning adjustments during the ride. Th...

Re: A major improvement: OS2 for Newton

The tilt seems to respond very slowly in OS 2.11. I rode down a 150m hill with avg slope 14%. Yes, measured slope. (11% 0-50m, 17% 50-100 and 14% 100-150m.) Newton only managed to reach max 9%, and the Isaac shows that the max slope far out on the flat after the hill. (file: At 05:47-06:16) Isaac el...

I try to hold constant 350 watt for 60 sec. (manage to stay between 330-365w). iBike Newton shows 342w avg. When I import the ride file to Isaac I get 313watt avg (?!?). I ride for a longer ride trying to hold 250w avg. iBike Newton shows 246w avg. Isaac 213watt (?!?) Hmmm..maybe this have something...

Trip meter accuracy

There is a trip-meter issue in Ibike Newton. I use metric units, but I guess the same bug can be found in English unit too. The trip meter displays 0.1km when I pass 0.055km. This means 45m error at 0.1km. Test: 72 wheel turns x 2.096m = 151m = iBike 0.1 km 75 wheel turns x 2.096m = 157m = iBike 0.2...

I see this also affects the coastdown process. Did a new Cal Ride today, with coastdowns (because of stem adjustment and autumn clothes collection) The iBike calculate Wind Scaling = 0.912 The Isaac calculate Wind Scaling = 0.745 The 0.745 Wind Scaling is used in the "process calibration ride&q...

Re: Wind Scaling difference in Newton and Isaac?

I find this issue in all my cal rides, so my guess is that this can be found in other files too. My example: WS 0.725 and aero 0.283 before the cal-ride, and Isaac says WS 0.714 and aero 0.278 after. Cal ride.jpg Then, when I look at my ibike the Ibike shows aero = 0.342. If I extract the numbers fr...
