Re: My Newton cannot find my Garmin sensors

Velocomp wrote:...Hard resets won't cause your Garmin 1000 to misbehave!
I found a discussion thread in a Garmin forum where I discovered that this is a known problem. A recent firmware upgrade for the Edge 1000 has "broken" earlier models of their heart rate monitor chest straps.

Re: My Newton cannot find my Garmin sensors

Hmm...there should be zero problems. Do a Hard Reset of your Newton, then do a Scan. Please post any messages that your Newton screen shows during and after the Scan Yep, it appears that a hard reset did the trick. Strangely enough, now that the Newton sees all of my sensors, my Garmin Edge 1000 wo...

My Newton cannot find my Garmin sensors

I have an iBike Newton running firmware version 5.05. For reasons unknown, it will not connect to my Garmin speed or cadence sensors (I have Garmin's separate cadence and speed sensors that do not require magnets). I know that they are transmitting because my Garmin Edge 1000 can see them. I'm not s...

Not a happy camper...

Several weeks ago I submitted a post in which I reported that I couldn't get my Newton off of the trainer mode screen. You know, the screen that displays "trnr on" or "trnr off"? Well, it's still happening! I rode my rollers all week with the trainer mode on. This morning, becaus...

Re: Trnr Mode

I had not read this before submitting my most recent reply. It explains why the unit boots up into the trnr mode screen. I still think it's more difficult to get off of that screen than it should be, but I'll keep fiddling with it to make sure I'm not doing something out of sequence. When your unit...

Re: Trnr Mode

Note: If you leave the unit in TRNR mode after your exercise and the unit shuts off, it will display TRNR ON when you turn the unit on and you also have to press the center button as a confirmation. This also happens if you do a ride reset to start a new ride. I had not read this before submitting ...

Re: Trnr Mode

Thanks fellas, but if any of those things were working I wouldn't have posted this topic. When I navigate to the trnr mode screen I have to press and hold the center button to get the mode to start blinking. So far so good. Then I press the up or down arrow to change the the mode to on or off. When ...

Trnr Mode

If I go to the setup screen and then User on to set Trnr mode either off or on, I get stuck in the Trnr mode status screen and can't get out. I believe that reset works, but isn't that also wiping out my profile data and resetting the clock?

Re: Phantom data

I strongly suspect your ride files are correct, and that the date/time in your Newton was wrong for these particular files. It may be that, when you connected the Newton to Isaac, one of the commands you used updated the date/time. I would use these files as valid. Last night I completed an indoor ...

Re: Phantom data

If these are the calibration rides from Saturday I gotta say that, when compared to weather.com data, the wind gauge was spot on - eight miles per hour! At this point I'm thinkin' that these are the right files. We've just gotta figure out what's going on with the dates.

Re: Phantom data

Click the Enviro button on your Newton and check to be certain the date and time in it is correct. By the way, I meant to say that I went for a ride on December 8. Yes, the date and time are correct. On the way to the date and time display I stumbled across and got stuck in a Crd0 screen. It toggle...

Phantom data

I went for a ride today, December 12, between noon and 5:00 PM Pacific time. The excursion included three calibration rides. When I uploaded the ride files from the Newton, I didn't find a single one with today's date. I'm not even finding times that coincide with today's ride. When I check the date...

Another bad calibration ride

I performed another calibration ride as suggested by another forum member when I mentioned that I'd lost twenty-five pounds since the last one. The problem is that the Newton flagged all three as "bad." Of all the calibration rides I've done, all but one of them was bad. All three of these...

Wait a minute! When I stop for a stop sign or traffic signal, won't the Newton think I've started the inbound leg?

Re: Yet another calibration ride question

Your post begs the question: why are you doing so many cal rides? It's OK if you stop at a light during a cal ride. I always go to the other side of the road on my cal rides. It sounds like we've (unintentionally) made the cal ride sound too restrictive. The important thing is to have consistent wi...

Yet another calibration ride question

When I conduct a calibration ride I try to find a route where I will be unencumbered. Typically that has been the asphalt road that circumnavigates a local lake. Unfortunately, using this location has become increasingly problematic. Between the pedestrians, their children, their pets and, yes, othe...

Re: Recalibrating wind and tilt

Okay, so under what circumstances to I really need to perform new calibration ride. Since I started using an iBike, my total weight has dropped twenty-seven pounds. Is updating that number in the profile sufficient?

Recalibrating wind and tilt

On occasion I will recalibrate wind and tilt prior to starting a ride. I was just wondering whether those exercises accomplish anything when not followed by a new calibration ride. In other words, will the new tilt and wind calibrations be applied immediately, or are they effective only when followe...

Interpreting The Data

Now that I have a calibration ride, how do I interpret it? Do I need to perform a wind analysis? What about checking the calibration? In the Analyze Wind graph, is a negative wind (the green bar, I think) ever valid? I'd attach an example, but I don't have access to one right now.

Re: Where's the Data?

Okay. I went out to the lake tonight. I got in about twenty miles including two calibration rides. The bottom line is that the Newton performed flawlessly, right from the very first pedal stroke! But I swear it was not working before! No, really! I'm not crazy, I am not crazy! :)

Re: Where's the Data?

Okay. I did all of those things. The display reads "POUT" and "SPCD". Not only did the Newton detect my speed/cadence sensor, but it displayed the speed as well. However, this has never been the problem. The Newton has never had a problem detecting the sensors - neither speed/cad...

Re: Where's the Data?

The symptoms persist. I don't know whether I mentioned that the unit has not always behaved this way. I just wish I could identify what precipitated this change. I don't know what it's worth, but I've attached the most recent ride file. All of your ride data (speed/cadenceHR/power) is recorded cont...

Re: Where's the Data?

It would appear that the problem persists. It happened again this past Sunday. I turned on the Newton followed by the Garmin. I did this immediately after removing the bike from my vehicle so that it can acclimate while I'm getting dressed. Typically I spin the pedals backwards to turn on the (Garmi...

Re: Where's the Data?

I put the Newton on my bike, turn it on and start riding. However, when I glance at the display there's no power data being displayed. What seems to fix that is to stop riding, perform a tilt and wind calibration, and then start riding again.

Where's the Data?

I've noticed that on occasion my Newton isn't generating any statistics when I start a ride. I believe the remedy has been to stop and perform a tilt and wind. Is what I'm observing a feature or a flaw? I'm assuming that there's some interval at which the Newton wants to refresh its calibration data.

Indoor versus outdoor discrepancy

I suspect this question has been asked before, so I'll make it short and sweet. Does it require a greater effort on rollers to get the same results (i.e., velocity) that you would on the road? When riding my e-Motion rollers, I've noticed that my watts are higher but my speed is slower.

Re: Calibration Woes

I'm not sure why you get the bad tilt warning because it looks pretty good. So you might want to do one more tilt calibration just to be sure, but that won't change the profile at all. Also if you haven't done a fitness test you need to do that to establish your FTP. Right now your FTP is set at 80...
